on the Trade Agreement between the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and Ireland
The Trade Agreement between the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and Ireland was signed in Dublin on 14 December 1972.
Pursuant to Article 6 thereof, the Agreement entered into force on the date of signature, i.e. 14 December 1972, and will expire on 31 December 1974.
The Czech version of the Agreement is hereby published at the same time.

TRADE AGREEMENT
between the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and Ireland
Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and Ireland
wishing to achieve the harmonious development of trade between the two countries as far as possible on the basis of equality and mutual benefits; and
having regard to the objectives of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade, of which both countries are Contracting Parties,
they have agreed as follows:
The exchange of goods between the two countries will take place in accordance with the provisions of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade.
Both Parties will endeavour to create conditions for the permanent growth of trade between the two countries, both in traditional and new goods, and to improve the structure of trade.
Trade between the two countries will take place on the basis of contracts concluded between Czechoslovak legal persons authorised to do business abroad on the one hand and natural and legal persons in Ireland on the other.
Representatives of the two Contracting Parties shall meet alternately once a year in Prague and Dublin to examine together trade between the two countries in the previous year and to examine the implementation of this Agreement. They will look for opportunities to remove barriers if they occur in trade between the two countries and assess what adjustment would be necessary for next year. In addition, meetings of representatives of both Contracting Parties shall be held at the request of either Party no later than 30 days from the date on which such request is received.
Salaries relating to trade between the two States shall be made in a freely convertible currency agreed upon by the parties concluding the contract in question.
1. This Agreement shall enter into force on the date of signature and shall apply until 31 December 1974.
2. The termination of this Agreement shall not affect the validity of contracts concluded between the relevant organisations and undertakings in both countries.
3. Both Parties reserve the right to initiate consultations concerning this Agreement in the light of their respective international obligations; Such consultations may not, however, concern the essential objectives of this Agreement.
To prove the signature, duly authorised by their respective governments, they signed this agreement and attached the seals to it.
Written in Dublin on 14 December 1972, in two original copies, each in Czech and English, the two texts being equally authentic.

During the negotiations which ended today by signing the Trade Agreement between Ireland and the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic, the issue of improving the structure of trade between the two countries was also discussed.
In connection with this, I have the honor To inform you that there are possibilities in Ireland for exporting the goods listed in the attached schedule, and my government assumes that this will be brought to the attention of the relevant Czechoslovak organisations.
