concerning the Convention between the Government of the Czechoslovak Republic and the Government of the People's Republic of Poland on border tourism.
On 6 September 1955, the Convention between the Government of the Czechoslovak Republic and the Government of the Polish People's Republic on border tourism was negotiated in Prague.
The Government approved the Convention on 23 November 1955. According to Article 15, the Convention entered into force on 22 April 1956 in exchange for the approval of the two Governments.

Convention
between the Government of the Czechoslovak Republic and the Government of the Polish People's Republic on border tourism.
The Government of the Czechoslovak Republic and the Government of the Polish People's Republic, in an effort to deepen the friendly relations between the two states also in the field of tourism, have agreed on the following provisions:
The Contracting Parties shall, under the conditions laid down in this Convention, allow the citizens of the other State to enter their national territory, as defined for border tourism.
The following territories are defined for border tourism (hereinafter referred to as the "tourist area '):
in the Czechoslovak Republic:
the territory bounded by a line drawn from the Great Kameniste on the national border (kota 2128) through the valley of Hliné, on the way along the Silent Brook to the Kite 894, from there east to the road on the left bank of the Silent Brook and then along this road through Podbanská, Tri Studne (kota 1090), via the Koty 1178 and 1262 to Strbske Ple, from there by road via Tatranska Polianka, Nové Smokovec, Old Smokovec, Tatranska Lomnice, Matliary, Kežmarské Žleb, Tatrštranska Kotlina, Ždiar, via the road north of Javorina via kota 1037 on the national border and then along the national border south to the point of origin;
in the Republic of Poland:
I. the territory defined by the line running from the place where the Suchá Hora - Chocholów road crosses the national border, along the road via Witów to Zakopané (including Gubolowka), along the road to Poronin to the place where it converges with the road from Bystré and then through this road via Bystré, Lysa Polana to the state border, from there along the state border towards the south to the starting point;
II. Territory defined by a line running along the river Danube from where it leaves the state border east of the anchor 476 to Kroscienka, along the road via Czorsztyn to the state border, from there along the state border east to the starting point.
The tourist area includes:
in the Czechoslovak Republic:
railway track Strbske pleso - Tatranská Lomnica;
in the Republic of Poland:
I. Poronin with access by road or rail to the buried - Poronin;
II. For water tourism River Danube from Nowé Targ to Kroscienka with access to the railway Zakované - Nowy Targ or Dry Hora - Nowy Targ or to the road Zakované - Nowy Targ or Chocholów - Nowy Targ.
(1) Closed settlements and communications that define the tourist area fall within this area.
(2) The scope of the tourist area is apparent from the map annexed to this Convention.
The Contracting Parties may close certain parts of the tourist area for tourism. They may also limit or stop tourism for a transitional period. Such measures shall be immediately notified to the competent authorities of the two States.
(1) A one-off pass authorises the crossing of national borders and residence in the tourist area of the other State.
(2) Discharge holders may carry children under 15 years of age if they have them registered in their pass.
(1) Participants in youth trips organised by schools or mass organisations may, under the guidance of an adult, cross national borders and reside in the tourist area of the other State on the basis of a single public pass.
(2) The participant of the expedition, over 15 years old, is obliged to carry a photo card.
(1) Permits are issued by the competent authorities on the basis of tourist cards. A participant in a youth expedition, with the exception of the head of the expedition, may not have a tourist pass.
(2) The Contracting Parties shall be informed of which authorities issue passes.
(3) The passes are bilingual, Czech-Polish or Slovak-Polish. Discharge models are attached to this Convention.
(1) Persons authorised under this Convention to cross national borders (hereinafter referred to as "tourists") may cross national borders at specified places and within a specified time. Before crossing national borders, they shall be obliged to have a pass validated by the competent border authority of their State; they shall also be obliged, on a specified journey to the competent border authority of the other State, to proceed without delay and no later than 24 hours after crossing the border, with a pass to confirm. The competent authorities of the two States may, by mutual agreement, authorise exemptions from these provisions for climbing exits.
(2) The confirmed pass authorises residence in the tourist area of the other State for a maximum period of 6 days, not counting the date of entry into the territory of the other State.
(3) When staying in the tourist area of the other state, tourists are required to maintain local regulations.
(4) The competent authorities of the two States shall agree on the crossing points of the national borders and communicate the routes to the competent border authorities.
Tourists who would be detained in the territory of a second State for infringement of or arising from the provisions of this Convention, in particular because they have crossed the border of the tourist area, shall be returned or immediately transferred to the border authorities of the other State.
Tourists may receive special travel cheques under conditions agreed upon by the competent authorities of the two States.
(1) Tourists are subject to customs control.
(2) The competent authorities shall determine in accordance with their rules and shall notify the competent authorities of the other State of the conditions under which and the type and quantity of objects tourists may transport across national borders.
Joint consultations shall be held at the request of one of the Contracting Parties for the exchange of experience and to facilitate the uniform implementation of this Convention.
The Contracting Parties may, by mutual agreement, extend the tourist area by exchange of notes as well as amend the various provisions of this Convention.
(1) This Convention requires the approval of the governments of both States and enters into force on the date of the exchange of notes by which such approval is notified.
(2) This Convention shall remain in force for a period of 3 years and shall be automatically extended for further annual periods unless one of the Contracting Parties denies it 3 months before the end of the relevant period.
This Convention was drawn up in Prague on 6 September 1955 in two copies, each in the Czech and Polish languages, in which both texts are equally authentic.
