amending the limits of liability adopted in accordance with Article 24 (2) of the Convention on the Unification of Certain Rules on International Carriage by Air, adopted in Montreal on 28 May 1999
On 16 October 2024, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs informed the Secretary-General of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) that, in accordance with Article 24 (2) of the Convention on the Unification of Certain Rules on International Carryover (1), amendments to the limits of liability provided for by this Convention were adopted.
The amendments entered into force on 28 December 2024 and entered into force on that date for the Czech Republic. On the date of entry into force of these amendments, the amendments to the limits in force from 28 December 2019, published under No 5 / 2020 Coll.
The English version of the amendments and their translation into the Czech language are announced simultaneously.

Subject: Revision of liability limits under the Montreal Convention 1999 - Notification of the date of entry into force of revised limits (a) take into account that revised limits of liability become applicable from 28 December 2024 to all Parties to the Montreal Convention; and (b) adapt the implementing legislation as necessary in order to allow the revised liability limits to become valid;
Mr. / Mrs.,
I have the honour to refer to the letter to the States LE 3 / 38.1-IND / 24 / 4 of 28 June 2024 by which the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) notified the Contracting Parties of the results of the review of the limits of liability pursuant to Article 24 (2) of the Convention on the Unification of Certain Rules on International Transport, signed in Montreal on 28 May 1999 (Doc 9740).
As provided for in paragraph 8 of the above letter to the States, the Contracting Parties were informed that the limits of liability provided for by the Montreal Convention should be revised as follows:

The Contracting Parties were notified, in accordance with the silent approval procedure set out in paragraph 2 of Article 24 of the Montreal Convention, that those revisions would enter into force for all Contracting Parties six months after notification unless, within three months of notification, most Contracting Parties have expressed their opposition to ICAO. Such majority dissent was not expressed.
The Contracting Parties are therefore invited to take the necessary measures, in accordance with their national legal requirements, so that the revised limits become applicable on 28 December 2024.
