on the Agreement between the Government of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and the Government of the Republic of Cuba in the field of tourism
On 12 December 1977, the Agreement between the Government of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and the Government of the Republic of Cuba on cooperation in the field of tourism was signed in Havana. The Agreement entered into force on 23 August 1978 on the basis of Article 10 thereof.
The Czech version of the Agreement is hereby published at the same time.

AGREEMENT
on cooperation in the field of tourism
Government of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and Government of the Republic of Cuba
led by the desire to develop and further strengthen friendly relations between the peoples of both states on the basis of the principles of proletarian internationalism and the socialist economic integration of the Member States of the Council of mutual economic assistance,
in order to ensure the best possible conditions for promoting mutual tourism, which would allow a deeper understanding of both states' success in building socialism,
with a view to further developing mutual tourism and cooperation in this area,
have decided to conclude this agreement.
To this end, the Contracting Parties have appointed their Agents to:

who, following the exchange of their full powers, found in good and proper form, have agreed as follows:
The Parties will develop and expand cooperation in the field of tourism between the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and the Republic of Cuba on a mutually balanced basis, with a view to deepening mutual knowledge of the achievements of the economy, social, cultural and scientific development as well as historical monuments, natural beauties, tourist attractions and revolutionary traditions of both countries.
The Parties will cooperate in the development of tourism on the basis of equality of rights and mutual benefit and will facilitate tourist group and individual journeys organised through travel agencies and social organisations, cultural and sporting events, exhibitions, fairs and international meetings, youth travel and specialised thematic tours.
The Contracting Parties shall facilitate the further development of aviation links between the two countries and facilitate border crossing.
The Contracting Parties agree to ensure the carriage of tourists by air between the two countries by their own aircraft. If necessary, the necessary transport capacity from the other party will be requested from one party. If the parties do not have sufficient capacity to transport tourists by their own means, they may in this case request assistance from carriers of other countries in order to ensure the development of tourism.
The Contracting Parties shall, through the competent authorities and tourism organisations, take measures to improve the awareness of travel opportunities in the territory of the other State by appropriate promotion, information and recruitment activities, where possible in the language of the other country.
The Parties shall promote the exchange of experience, information and documentation on tourism, in particular in the field of the activities of competent authorities and organisations, the construction of tourist facilities and the training of cadets, as well as in cooperation with scientific research institutes and other tourism issues.
The Parties shall develop and promote the exchange of experts from different areas of tourism.
Scholarship stays in the vocational education sector will be carried out through the competent authorities of both parties under the Cultural Cooperation Agreement between the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and the Republic of Cuba.
Scientific and technical cooperation in the field of tourism resulting from this Agreement shall be carried out in accordance with the general conditions of scientific and technological cooperation applicable between the two countries.
The payments resulting from the implementation of this Agreement shall be made in accordance with the payment agreement between the Contracting Parties and other contractual documents governing these matters.
The Parties shall further enhance the cooperation of the tourism authorities of the two States in the relevant international organisations and facilitate the exchange of experience in this field.
The Parties shall assist the cooperation of authorities and tourism organisations in improving information, promoting interests and recruiting third-country tourists through appropriate travel agencies.
The competent authorities of the Contracting Parties shall conclude protocols for certain periods of time to implement this Agreement. In addition, whenever they consider it necessary, they will evaluate its implementation and the course of mutual tourism.
This Agreement shall be subject to approval under the legislation of each Contracting Party and shall enter into force on the date of the exchange of notes on its approval. However, its provisions shall be provisionally applied from the date of signature.
This Agreement shall be concluded for a period of five years and shall be deemed to be extended for a further year each time unless it is denounced in writing by either Party not later than six months before the expiry of the relevant period.
Done at Havana, 12 December 1977, in duplicate, each in the Czech and Spanish languages, the two texts being equally authentic.
