on the Cooperation Agreement between the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland
On 8 September 1972, the Agreement on Cooperation between the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland was signed in Brno.
The Agreement entered into force on the date of signature, i.e. 8 September 1972.
The Czech version of the Agreement is hereby published at the same time.

AGREEMENT
on cooperation between the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland
the Government of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland,
having an interest in promoting and developing economic cooperation between the two countries for mutual benefit,
they have agreed as follows:
The Contracting Parties confirm their interest in developing all forms of cooperation in the fields of industry and agriculture listed in the Annex to this Agreement and undertake to facilitate and support this cooperation.
(1) The supply of goods resulting from cooperation agreements approved by the competent authorities of both Contracting Parties with reference to this Article shall not be subject to any quantitative restrictions as regards imports from the territory of one Contracting Party into the territory of the other Contracting Party.
(2) The Contracting Parties shall facilitate the conclusion of contracts between their undertakings and industrial property organisations within the framework of their laws and regulations.
(3) The Contracting Parties shall, as soon as possible, examine the requests which will be submitted to them for the approval of each cooperation agreement within the meaning of this Article.
(1) A Czechoslovak-British Joint Commission is hereby established, consisting of representatives of each of the Contracting Parties. It shall cover:
(a) evaluate regularly the implementation of this Agreement and, in general, examine and promote the development of economic cooperation between the two countries and include in the Agreement forms of cooperation other than those specifically mentioned in the Annex to this Agreement;
(b) to regularly assess the development of mutual trade, in particular the implementation of the Long-term Trade Agreement between the two countries concluded in London on 27 June 1972, and to recommend measures to create conditions for the permanent growth of trade between the two countries;
(c) carry out regular evaluations pursuant to Article V of the Agreement on Cooperation in Applied Science and Technology, which was signed in Prague on 26 March 1968 (hereinafter referred to as "Technical Cooperation Agreement");
(d) to discuss any other matter relating to the matters referred to in the preceding paragraphs (a), (b), (c) if proposed by the authorities of any Contracting Party.
(2) The Joint Commission shall meet alternately each year in Prague and London and may, in addition, meet at the request of any party at a place agreed by both Parties on a case-by-case basis.
(3) The Contracting Parties shall negotiate the Rules of Procedure of the Joint Commission.
This Agreement shall be without prejudice to the provisions and implementation of the Technical Cooperation Agreement, unless there is otherwise an understanding between the Parties.
This Agreement shall apply to the territory of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and the territory of the United Kingdom. The territory of the United Kingdom includes England and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
(1) This Agreement shall enter into force on the date of its signature and shall apply for five years from that date. Upon expiry of that period, it shall be extended by one year each time, unless one of the Contracting Parties denies it in writing six months before the end of the initial period of five years or six months before the end of each additional annual period of validity.
(2) The termination of this Agreement shall not affect the validity and execution of contracts for cooperation approved in accordance with Article 2.
They have signed this agreement to prove it, the signature, duly authorized by their respective governments.
Done in duplicate in Brno on 8 September 1972 in Czech and English, the two texts being equally authentic.

ANNEX
The economic cooperation which is the subject of this Agreement shall include:
(a) the division of production programmes between undertakings and organisations of both Contracting Parties concerning parts and components for machinery or other equipment for the purpose of the joint production of the finished product;
(b) the production of parts and parts by an undertaking of one Contracting Party as specified by the undertaking or organisation of the other Party, the undertaking or organisation of the other Contracting Party producing the final product;
(c) contracts under which the undertaking or organisation of one Contracting Party is to modify the material provided by the undertaking or organisation of the other Contracting Party;
(d) exchange of experience between undertakings or organisations of the Parties on standardisation in production, implementation of inventions and advanced technology, as well as technical information and documentation;
(e) all other forms agreed upon by the Joint Commission referred to in Article 3.

I am writing to you with reference to the Cooperation Agreement between the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, which was signed today to confirm to you the agreement between the two governments concerning the cooperation agreements concluded between their undertakings and organisations during the period of validity of the Agreement, which, however, will not be approved by the competent authorities of the two countries at the time of its conclusion with reference to Article 2 of the Agreement.
The two Governments agree that, in the event that quantitative restrictions are introduced during the period of validity of the Agreement, which could affect those cooperation agreements, the two Governments shall consider the issue of approval, by reference to Article 2 or the manner in which such restrictions are applied, in order to avoid the damage which would arise from those restrictions to the parties to those agreements.
I would be grateful if you would confirm in your communication on the acceptance of this letter that your government agrees with its contents.
