Ministry of Foreign Affairs
on the negotiation of a Protocol on the access of the Kingdom of Sweden to the North Atlantic Treaty
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announces that the Protocol on access to the North Atlantic Treaty was adopted in Brussels on 5 July 2022.
The Protocol was signed on behalf of the Czech Republic on the same day.
The Parliament of the Czech Republic agreed to the Protocol and the President of the Republic ratified it. The Ratification Charter of the Czech Republic was deposited with the Government of the United States of America, depositary of the Protocol, on 19 September 2022.
The Protocol entered into force on 7 March 2024 on the basis of Article II thereof and entered into force on that date for the Czech Republic.
The English version of the Protocol and its translation into the Czech language shall be published simultaneously.

Translation of international contract into Czech language
Protocol on the access of the Kingdom of Sweden to the North Atlantic Treaty
Parties to the North Atlantic Treaty, signed in Washington on 4 April 1949,
Knowing that security in the North Atlantic region will be strengthened by the access of the Kingdom of Sweden to this Treaty,
agree on the following:
Article I
After the entry into force of this Protocol, the Secretary-General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation, on behalf of all its parties, shall send the Government of the Kingdom of Sweden an invitation to access the North Atlantic Treaty. In accordance with Article 10 of the Treaty, the Kingdom of Sweden shall become a Party on the date on which it deposits the instrument of access with the Government of the United States of America.
Article II
This Protocol shall enter into force after all parties to the North Atlantic Treaty have notified the Government of the United States of America of its approval. The Government of the United States of America will inform all parties to the North Atlantic Treaty of the date of receipt of each of these notifications and the date on which this Protocol enters into force.
Article III
This Protocol, the English and French texts of which are equally authentic, will be deposited in the archives of the United States Government. Proper certified copies will be handed over by this government to the governments of the other parties to the North Atlantic Treaty.
This Protocol has been signed by the Agents, signed in support of the above-mentioned evidence.
