DECLARATION
Minister for Foreign Affairs
of 29 March 1974
on the Long-term Trade Agreement between the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and Sweden
On 30 March 1973 the Long-term Trade Agreement between the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and Sweden was signed in Stockholm.
Pursuant to Article 6 thereof, the Agreement entered into force on the date of signature.
The Czech translation of the Agreement and the exchanged letters shall be announced simultaneously.
Minister:
Ing. Chupek v. r.
LONG-TERM TRADE AGREEMENT
between the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and Sweden
the Government of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and the Government of Sweden,
taking into account that there are favourable conditions for further expansion of trade and economic relations; and
Desiring to support and facilitate the development of trade and economic relations between the two countries for their mutual benefit,
they have agreed as follows:
Both governments aim to create conditions for a permanent and substantial increase in trade between the two countries, both in goods traditionally exchanged between them and in new goods. In this way, they confirm their interest in the greater division of trade.
The exchange of goods between the two countries will take place in accordance with the rules of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade and with this Agreement.
The competent authorities shall endeavour to simplify, as far as possible, the administrative formalities concerning imports and exports.
Appropriate arrangements for each year for imports into Sweden of goods originating in the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and for imports into the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic of goods originating in Sweden shall be determined annually and recorded in the Protocol in accordance with Article 5 of this Agreement.
Both governments, taking into account the particular importance of industrial cooperation for the future development of economic relations, confirm their interest in developing all forms of such cooperation between companies and organisations of both countries.
All salaries between the two countries shall be in freely convertible currency in accordance with applicable laws and foreign exchange regulations.
The Joint Commission, composed of representatives of both governments, shall be established to assess the implementation of this Agreement.
The Joint Committee shall hold annual discussions on the appropriate arrangements referred to in Article 2 of this Agreement, the results of which would be recorded in the Protocol.
The Joint Commission shall examine the development of trade between the two countries and consider the problems that would arise from the implementation of this Agreement or any other issues arising from mutual trade that would be proposed by either Party.
The Joint Commission may make proposals or recommendations to the relevant governments aimed at further developing the exchange of goods between the two countries.
The Joint Commission will meet annually, alternately in the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and Sweden, and otherwise meet at the request of any of the two governments on the day and place agreed for each such occasion.
This Agreement shall enter into force on the date of signature and shall be effective from 1 January 1973 to 31 December 1977. Thereafter, the agreement will automatically be extended for a period of one year unless either of the two governments gives written notice no later than three months before its expiry.
This Agreement replaces the Trade Agreement signed on 26 January 1967.
Done in Stockholm on 30 March 1973 in English, both texts being equally authentic.

For the Government of Sweden:

Done at Stockholm, 30 March 1973.
Mr. Chairman,
Referring to the Long-term Trade Agreement signed today between the Government of Sweden and the Government of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic, I have the honour to inform you that the Government of Sweden is satisfied with the following:
Both governments confirm their agreement that the exchange of goods between the two countries will take place on the basis of world market prices. Where world market prices do not exist, prices to be taken into account should be those generally applied to such goods on the basic markets. Should price difficulties arise, both parties will consult each other immediately to find immediate and appropriate measures to overcome these difficulties.
I would be grateful if you could confirm that the Government of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic is also in agreement with the above.
I am taking this opportunity, Mr President, to reassure you of my highest consideration.
