On 20 July 1977, the Agreement between the Government of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and the Government of the People's Republic of Poland to facilitate the travel of citizens of both states was signed in Warsaw. The Agreement entered into force pursuant to Article 14 thereof on 20 August 1977.
The Czech version of the Agreement is hereby published at the same time.

AGREEMENT
between the Government of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and the Government of the People's Republic of Poland to facilitate the travel of citizens of both states
Government of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and Government of the Polish People's Republic
in an effort to deepen friendly relations between the peoples of both states,
in an effort to facilitate the citizens of both states to learn about the success of the construction of socialism, history, culture, the way people live and the natural beauty of the other country,
in order to create for this purpose the most favourable conditions for the tourism of citizens of both states and to promote the development of all forms of tourism between the two States and their cooperation in this field, they have decided to conclude this agreement.
To this end, they appointed their agents:

Government of the People's Republic of Poland

Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of Poland,
who, after the exchange of powers which they found in good and proper form, have agreed as follows:
Citizens of the Contracting Parties shall be exempt from the visa requirement to the extent and under the conditions laid down in this Agreement.
1. Citizens of one Contracting Party who are resident in its national territory or in the territory of another Socialist State, if they have a travel document as listed in Annex 1 to this Agreement, may travel or travel without a visa to the territory of the other Contracting Party.
2. Article 1 shall also apply to citizens of both Contracting Parties who are resident in the territory of States not referred to in paragraph 1 of this Article only when passing through the territory of one Contracting Party to the territory of the Contracting Party to which he is a citizen. The transit through the territory of each of the Contracting Parties shall take place within the time limit set by its legislation.
3. Minors who do not have their own travel document must be entered in the travel document of the person with whom they travel.
4. Within 30 days of the date of signature of this Agreement, the Contracting Parties shall exchange model travel documents by diplomatic means. The Contracting Parties shall inform each other of changes to these documents by the same means, not later than 30 days before their introduction, and shall simultaneously send each other their models.
Citizens of one Contracting Party may cross the national borders of the other Contracting Party at border crossing points established for passport operations by special agreements.
1. Citizens of one Contracting Party may stay in the territory of the other Contracting Party for a period not exceeding 30 days.
2. The competent authorities of the beneficiary State may, where justified, extend the period of stay within the validity of the travel document, but for a maximum period of six months, including an extension. If the travel document expires, the stay may be extended only if the diplomatic mission or consular post of the State of which the person is a citizen restores the document. The consent to extend the stay shall be granted free of charge.
3. Citizens of one Contracting Party may stay in the territory of the other Contracting Party for the duration of their secondment or for the duration of their activities resulting from relevant international agreements. This provision shall apply mutatis mutandis to members of the families of persons assigned to the territory of the other Contracting Party on official duty.
1. Citizens of one Contracting Party travelling to the territory of the other Contracting Party shall have the necessary funds to cover the cost of the stay.
The competent authorities of the Contracting Parties shall agree:
(a) the minimum funds which passengers must have for each day of stay;
(b) in which cases the minimum funds will not be required.
Citizens of the Contracting Parties residing in the territory of the other Contracting Party within the meaning of Article 4 (1) and (2) of this Agreement may not engage in any gainful activity during their stay in the territory of the other Contracting Party.
1. The citizens of the Contracting Parties may use the common "Czechoslovak-Polish friendship" paths leading to the ridges of the Giant Mountains if they have an identity card.
2. The detailed course of the common path referred to in paragraph 1 shall be indicated on the map annexed to this Agreement. The competent authorities of both Contracting Parties shall indicate the course of this trip in the field.
3. The conditions of use of the common "Czechoslovak-Polish friendship 'routes are laid down in the Treaty between the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and the People's Republic of Poland on legal relations at the Czechoslovak-Polish state borders, on cooperation and mutual assistance on border issues signed in Prague on 2 December 1967.
The border sections of the River Dunajce and Poprad shall be made available for tourist and sports navigation under the following conditions:
(a) the voyage may take place from dawn to dark;
(b) access to the bank of a river belonging to one Contracting Party shall be permitted only in places designated by the border authorities of the Contracting Parties by mutual agreement and in other places only if the safety of the voyage is threatened;
(c) persons on a voyage are required to carry an identity card.
1. Citizens of one Contracting Party shall be obliged to comply with its legislation during their stay in the territory of the other Contracting Party.
2. The provisions of this Agreement shall not affect the right of any Contracting Party to refuse or terminate an undesirable person entry into its territory.
3. The competent authorities of one Contracting Party shall notify the diplomatic mission or consular post of the other State of the measures referred to in paragraph 2.
1. The provisions of this Agreement shall not apply to citizens of one Contracting Party who intend to move to the territory of the other Contracting Party. In that case, they shall be required to obtain the consent of the competent authorities of the two States.
2. Citizens of one Contracting Party who are resident in the territory of the other Contracting Party may travel to the territory of which they are citizens without a visa from the State of residence.
3. Citizens of one Contracting Party who are resident in the territory of the other Contracting Party may only travel to the territory of a third State in accordance with the rules of the State of residence.
The competent authorities of the Contracting Parties shall, as appropriate, inform each other of the issues related to the implementation of this Agreement and shall jointly take the necessary measures to ensure its implementation.
The Convention between the Government of the Czechoslovak Republic and the Government of the People's Republic of Poland on border tourism, signed in Prague on 6 September 1955, as amended by an Exchange of Notes of 20 May 1961 and 3 May 1962, expires on the date of entry into force of this Agreement.
This Agreement shall be concluded for an unlimited period. It shall expire six months after the date of written denunciation by one of the Contracting Parties.
This Agreement shall enter into force 30 days after its signature.
Done at Warsaw, 20 July 1977 in duplicate, each in the Czech and Polish languages, the two texts being equally authentic.
