on the Long-term Economic Cooperation Agreement between the Government of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and the Government of the French Republic
The Long-term Economic Cooperation Agreement between the Government of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and the Government of the French Republic was signed in Paris on 14 November 1975. On the basis of its Article VI, the Agreement entered into force on the date of signature.
The Czech version of the Agreement is hereby published at the same time.

LONG-TERM AGREEMENT
on economic cooperation between the Government of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and the Government of the French Republic
Government of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and Government of the French Republic
- referring to the Agreement on Economic Cooperation in the Industrial Sector concluded in Paris on 23 February 1970 and to the participation of both countries in the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT),
- wishing to develop their relations for the best use of all the resources provided by the economic progress of both countries,
- aware of the essential role to be played by economic cooperation in the development of bilateral relations,
- consider it necessary to establish a solid framework and long-term provisions in order to facilitate the establishment of close and lasting cooperation relationships between the competent authorities and the undertakings of both countries,
- wishing to increase the development of cooperation on a mutually beneficial basis,
agree as follows:
The Government of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and the Government of the French Republic will support all the means at their disposal to develop economic cooperation between the authorities and businesses of both countries.
In order to strengthen business-to-business relations, both governments will particularly focus on increasing mutual knowledge of their long-term development prospects.
In order to facilitate the exchange of information in this area, the representatives of the authorities responsible for planning, if both parties agree, may be invited to participate in the meetings of the Joint Commission foreseen by Article V of this Agreement.
Joint Committee foreseen by Article In this agreement, they shall identify the areas in which the development of cooperation appears most desirable and shall, as soon as possible, establish an indicative programme of long-term economic cooperation.
Both parties consider that favourable perspectives exist in particular in the following areas:
- iron metallurgy
- engineering and electrical industry
- chemical industry
- electronics
- information technology
- production of cars and other means of transport
- construction industry
- agricultural technology and the food industry.
Cooperation between authorities and undertakings in both countries may take particular forms:
- joint construction of new industrial facilities, expansion and modernisation of existing units in each of the two countries and third countries,
- cooperation in production, manufacturing and sales,
- exchange of know-how, technical information, patents and licences; development of new techniques; education and exchange of specialists and trainees.
A Joint Commission on Economic Cooperation is hereby established to monitor the implementation of this Agreement and to take the measures necessary to implement its provisions.
Its scope shall cover all issues arising from economic cooperation between the two countries. In particular, it has the task of creating favourable conditions for the development of this cooperation, identifying intentions and drafting new proposals in this area. It shall, in particular, establish specialised working committees in the main areas of cooperation and coordinate their activities.
The Joint Commission shall meet at the request of either Party, in principle once a year, alternately in Prague and Paris.
This Agreement shall be concluded for a period of 10 years and shall enter into force on the date of signature. Six months before its expiry, the Contracting Parties shall agree on the measures to be taken to ensure the continuation of economic cooperation between the two countries.
Done at Paris, 14 November 1975 in duplicate, each in the Czech and French languages, the two texts being equally authentic.
