Communication from the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the negotiation of the Agreement between the Government of the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic and the Swiss Federal Council on the reciprocal visa waiver

The Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs announces that on 31 July 1990 an agreement between the Government of the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic and the Swiss Federal Council on mutual visa waiver was negotiated in Prague. The Arrangement entered into force on 15 August 1990.
The Czech version of the Czechoslovak note and the translation of the Swiss note are announced simultaneously.
The Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic has the honour of proposing the following Arrangement between the Government of the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic and the Swiss Federal Council on the reciprocal visa waiver:
1. Nationals of Contracting States who are holders of a valid passport and do not intend to stay in the second Contracting State for more than 3 months or to pursue a gainful activity may travel without a visa to and stay there in the second Contracting State.
2. Nationals of Contracting States intending to stay in the territory of the second Contracting State for more than 3 months or to pursue a gainful activity shall obtain a visa from the competent diplomatic or consular representation of the second Contracting State.
3. Czechoslovak and Swiss nationals with a valid residence permit in the second Contracting State may return without a visa.
1. Nationals of Contracting States holding a valid diplomatic, service or special passport and travelling to the territory of a second Contracting State as members of a diplomatic or consular representation or representatives in an international governmental organisation for taking up their duties or for official activity may travel and stay there without a visa during the duration of their secondment.
2. The same relief shall apply to members of the family of persons authorised under paragraph 1 holding a valid diplomatic, service or special passport.
Nationals of a Contracting State shall also be exempt from a travel visa or other formalities when leaving the other Contracting State.
Czechoslovak and Swiss nationals who travel or reside in the territory of the second Contracting State shall be required to comply in those States with the applicable laws and other provisions relating to the arrival and residence of foreigners, as well as the pursuit of independent or non-self-employed activities.
This Arrangement shall not restrict the right of the competent authorities of the Contracting States to refuse entry or residence of persons who might jeopardise public policy or the security of the State or whose presence in the country is illegal.
The Contracting States undertake to take over at any time, without formalities, their nationals who have arrived in the territory of the second Contracting State under the provisions of this Arrangement.
Any Contracting State may, on grounds of public policy, security or health, suspend in whole or in part the application of those provisions. The suspension or cancellation shall be notified without delay to the other Contracting State.
The Contracting States shall, by diplomatic means, transmit models of new or changed passports together with data on their use, if possible 60 days before their introduction.
This Arrangement also applies to the Principality of Liechtenstein. Liechtenstein citizens can travel to the territory of the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic under the same conditions as Swiss nationals.
1. This Arrangement shall be negotiated for an indefinite period. They may be denounced at any time if the period of 3 months is respected. The notification shall be notified to the other Party by diplomatic means.
2. This Arrangement is drawn up in the Czech and German languages, both texts being equally authentic.
In the event that the Swiss Federal Council agrees to the proposals contained in this note, this note and the responsible note of the Swiss Embassy containing the approval of the Swiss Federal Council will constitute the Arrangement between the Government of the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic and the Swiss Federal Council, which will enter into force on 15 August 1990.
The Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic uses this opportunity to reassure the Swiss Embassy with its deepest respect.

The Swiss Embassy has the honour of confirming receipt of a note from the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic of 31 July 1990, which reads as follows:
