Ministry of Foreign Affairs
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs states that on 4 January 1993 the Czech Republic requested the Secretary-General of the United Nations to be a member of the United Nations and declared its readiness to recognise and comply with the obligations contained in the United Nations Charter negotiated in San Francisco on 26 June 1945.
On a recommendation from the United Nations Security Council, adopted by Resolution S / RES / 801 of 8 January 1993, the United Nations General Assembly at its 47th session of 19 January 1993, Resolution A / RES / 47 / 221 decided to accept the Czech Republic as a member of the United Nations in accordance with Article 4 (2) of the Charter of the United Nations.
Resolution 2101 (XX) amending Article 109 of the United Nations Charter was adopted at the XXth session of the United Nations General Assembly on 20 December 1965.
The amendment of Article 109 of the Charter of the United Nations has been approved by the National Assembly of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and the President of the Republic has ratified the amendment. The instrument of ratification of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic for amending Article 109 of the Charter of the United Nations was deposited with the Secretary-General of the United Nations on 7 October 1966.
The amendment to Article 109 of the Charter of the United Nations entered into force on 12 June 1968 on the basis of Article 108 thereof and on that date it also entered into force for the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic.
Article 109 of the United Nations Charter has been amended as follows:
In Article 109 (1), the word 'seven' in the first sentence shall be replaced by 'nine'.
On 20 December 1971, Resolution 2847 (XXVI) amending Article 61 of the United Nations Charter was adopted at the XXVI session of the United Nations General Assembly. *)
The amendment of Article 61 of the Charter of the United Nations has been approved by the Federal Assembly of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and the President of the Republic has ratified the amendment. The instrument of ratification of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic for amending Article 61 was deposited with the Secretary-General of the United Nations on 4 February 1974.
The amendment to Article 61 of the United Nations Charter entered into force on the basis of Article 108 thereof on 24 September 1973 and entered into force on 4 February 1974 for the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic.
Article 61 of the United Nations Charter has been amended as follows:
1. The Economic and Social Council shall consist of fifty-four members of the United Nations elected by the General Assembly.
2. Subject to paragraph 3, 18 members of the Economic and Social Council shall be elected annually for three years. The performing member can be re-elected immediately.
3. In the first election following an increase in the number of members of the Economic and Social Council from 27 to 54 members, in addition to the members elected to the posts of the nine members whose term of office ends in the year of the election, 27 additional members will be elected. Of these twenty-seven additional members of nine, the official period shall end at the end of the first year and the period of another nine at the end of the second year, according to the adjustment provided for by the General Assembly.
4. Each member of the Economic and Social Council shall have one representative.
On 19 January 1993 the Czech Republic became a member of the United Nations and is committed to fulfilling the obligations contained in the Charter of the United Nations, including the Statute of the International Court of Justice, agreed at the United Nations Conference on the International Organisation in San Francisco on 26 June 1945, published under No. 30 / 1947 Coll., as amended.
At the same time, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs states that, in Decree No. 30 / 1947 of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Nations Charter on Article 41 of the second sentence, it should be rightly stated: "There may also be complete or partial interruptions of economic relations,...," and in Article 42 of the second sentence it should be rightly stated: "There may be demonstrations among such actions,..."
