The Czech National Council decided on this law:

ČÁST PRVÁ

Bodies of geodesy and cartography
§ 1
Czech Office Geodetic and Cartographic
(1) The Czech Geodetic and Cartography Office is the central body of the Czech Socialist Republic.
(2) The head of the Czech Geodetic and Cartographic Office is the President, appointed and recalled by the Government of the Czech Socialist Republic. The President of the Czech Geodetic and Cartographic Office is responsible for the performance of his duties by the Government of the Czech Socialist Republic.
(3) The principles of the activities and organisation of the Czech Geodetic and Cartographic Office are governed by the Statute approved by the Government of the Czech Socialist Republic.
§ 2
Territorial bodies of geodesy and cartography
(1) Regional geodetic and cartographic administrations (hereinafter referred to as "regional administrations") are hereby established for each region.
(2) For the territory of the Central Bohemian Region and the territory of the capital city of Prague, Geodetic and Cartographic Administration is established for the Central Bohemian Region and for the capital city of Prague with the competence of the regional administration according to this law.
(3) The offices of the Regional Administrations are the same as those of the Regional National Committees. The President of the Czech Geodetic and Cartographic Office may determine the headquarters of regional administrations by way of derogation from the seat of the Regional National Committee.
(4) The head of the Regional Administration is the Director, appointed and dismissed by the Chairman of the Czech Geodetic and Cartographic Office.
(5) Regional administrations are budgetary organisations.
§ 3
The Czech Office of Geodetic and Cartographic and Regional Administration is a body of state administration for the security of civilian needs of geodesy and cartography.

Scope of bodies of geodesy and cartography
§ 4
Czech Office Geodetic and Cartographic
(a) determines the concept and guidelines for the development of geodesy and cartography and is responsible for their implementation;
(b) manage work on the establishment, where appropriate, of the establishment, maintenance, renewal and documentation of geodetic foundations and national map works;
(c) manage the establishment and maintenance of real estate records and the production and verification of geometric plans for these purposes;
(d) manage and coordinate research and scientific and technological development in geodesy and cartography;
(e) manage the work of engineering geodesy;
(f) ensure the creation, production, reproduction and publication of cartographic works and publications and coordinate the publication of such works by other competent authorities and organisations;
(g) ensure and coordinate the tasks of international cooperation in geodesy and cartography;
(h) manage and ensure coordination of geodetic and cartographic works to be taken over or used also for state map works;
(i) implement, with the approval of the Federal Ministry of National Defence, geodesy and cartography measures in the interests of State defence;
(j) manage regional administrations and organisations within its competence.
§ 5
Regional administrations
(a) supervise the activities of the authorities and organisations within their respective areas of competence authorised to carry out geodetic and cartographic work;
(b) coordinate and control the geodetic and cartographic works to be taken over or used for national map works;
(c) ensure the collection, evaluation, documentation and further exploitation of the results of geodetic and cartographic works;
(d) establish, maintain and maintain real estate records in accordance with the actual situation, 1)
(e) ensure the establishment, maintenance, renewal, evaluation and documentation of national map works and keep records of the map fund;
f) perform other tasks entrusted to them by the Czech Office of Geodetic and Cartographic.

§ 6
This Law shall take effect on 1 July 1973.
