on the Treaty on friendship and cooperation between the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and Socialist Ethiopia
On 13 September 1981, the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation between the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and Socialist Ethiopia was signed in Addis Ababa.
The Treaty was approved by the Federal Assembly of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and ratified by the President of the Republic. The instruments of ratification were exchanged in Addis Ababa on 28 June 1982.
The Treaty entered into force on 28 June 1982 pursuant to Article 11 thereof. On that date, the Agreement on Friendship and Cooperation of 11 December 1959, published by No. 167 / 1960 Coll., expired.
The Czech version of the Treaty is hereby published at the same time.

TREATY
on friendship and cooperation between the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and Socialist Ethiopia
Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and Socialist Ethiopia,
building on traditional relations of close friendship, cooperation and anti-imperialist solidarity between the two countries,
Convincing that further strengthening of friendship and strengthening of mutual universal cooperation corresponds to the interests of the people of both countries,
Recognising that the unity of all revolutionary forces and the cooperation of socialist and developing countries are important factors in strengthening the independence of countries that have liberated themselves from foreign domination and exploitation,
committed to contributing to international peace and security, the fight against imperialism, colonialism, neo-colonialism, racism and apartheid in all their forms and speeches, domination and oppression, contributing to the unity of all forces fighting for social progress in the world,
reaffirming their commitment to the principles and objectives of the United Nations Charter,
building on the Declaration of Friendship and Cooperation between the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and Socialist Ethiopia of 2 December 1978,
attaching great importance to the further development and consolidation of their relations,
have decided to conclude this contract and have agreed as follows:
In accordance with the principles of proletarian internationalism, the High Contracting Parties will continue to deepen the relationship between friendship and solidarity. They will develop comprehensive cooperation based on respect for national sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence, equality and non-interference in internal affairs.
The High Contracting Parties will make every effort to extend and intensify mutually beneficial bilateral and multilateral economic, trade, cultural and scientific and technological cooperation on a long-term basis, with a view to contributing to increasing the welfare of the people of both countries.
The High Contracting Parties will develop all-round cooperation and exchange of experience in science, culture, education, health, literature, art, film, television, radio, press, physical education, sport, tourism, as well as in other areas with a view to deeper mutual understanding of life, work and the opportunities of the people of both countries.
The High Contracting Parties will continue to seek consistent implementation of the principles of peaceful coexistence of States with different social establishment and to extend and deepen the process of easing tensions in international relations, to achieve universal and complete disarmament, including nuclear disarmament, and to take account of these objectives will also actively promote the resolution of all international disputes by peaceful means, without prejudice to the rights of States under the Charter of the United Nations to individual and collective self-defence.
The High Contracting Parties will continue to support the fight against the forces of imperialism and for the complete destruction of colonialism, neo-colonialism, racism and apartheid in all their forms and speeches.
They will always show active solidarity and support the movement of non-participating countries in this fight and all nations fighting for freedom, independence, sovereignty and social progress, for the right of nations to decide their natural resources and their use, and for the creation of a new international economic order based on equality and justice.
The High Contracting Parties will continue to contribute actively to ensuring, maintaining and strengthening international peace and security, efforts to prevent plans, conspiracies and attacks by the enemies of peace, aggressive forces of imperialism and reaction. They reaffirm their loyalty to strict respect for the principle of the integrity of national borders and territorial integrity as the most important prerequisite for maintaining peace and security.
The High Contracting Parties shall consult each other on important international issues affecting the interests of both countries and issues of their relations.
The High Contracting Parties shall address all issues which may arise in the interpretation or implementation of this Treaty by bilateral negotiations and in a spirit of mutual respect and understanding.
The High Contracting Parties declare that this Treaty does not affect obligations under international agreements by which they are bound.
The date of entry into force of this Treaty shall be the date of expiry of the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation, negotiated in Addis Ababa on 11 December 1959.
This Treaty shall be subject to ratification and shall enter into force on the date of the exchange of instruments of ratification, which shall take place as soon as possible.
This Treaty shall apply for a period of 20 years from its entry into force and shall be automatically extended for another five years, unless one of the High Contracting Parties notifies the other High Contracting Party in writing, at least 12 months before the expiry of the current period, of its intention to terminate the Treaty.
Done at Addis Ababa, on 13 September 1981, in two original copies, each in the Czech, Hungarian and English languages, each text being equally authentic.
