on the Treaty between the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea on Friendship and Cooperation
On 11 September 1988, the Treaty between the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea on friendship and cooperation was signed in Pyongyang.
The Treaty was approved by the Federal Assembly of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and ratified by the President of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic.
The Treaty entered into force on 16 May 1989 pursuant to Article 9 thereof.
The Czech version of the Treaty is hereby published at the same time.

TREATY
between the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea on friendship and cooperation
the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea,
Recognising that there is friendship and unity between the two states, based on the principles of marxism-leninism and socialist internationalism, respect for sovereignty, full equality, non-interference in internal affairs, cooperative cooperation, mutual benefits and solidarity,
Convincing that further consolidation and development of these relations is in line with the fundamental interests of the people of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and contributes to strengthening unity between socialist countries, the cause of peace and socialism,
building on the desire to further strengthen the friendship, unity, cooperation and solidarity of socialist countries, non-participating countries and other peaceful countries of the world and actively contribute to the strengthening of peace and security in Europe, Asia and the world,
have decided to conclude this contract and have agreed on the following:
The High Contracting Parties will deepen and develop the relations of brotherly friendship, unity and cooperation between the two countries on a broad scale.
The High Contracting Parties will support the development of cooperation between state institutions, institutions and social organisations in order to deepen understanding between the peoples of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, their further convergence, consolidation of friendly relations and the creation of new spiritual and material values.
The High Contracting Parties will expand and develop mutual contacts and cooperation in the fields of economics, science and technology, culture, art, education, health, press, radio, television, film, sport, as well as in all other areas.
The High Contracting Parties will actively seek to consolidate the unity and solidarity of socialist countries and the international communist and workers' movement.
The High Contracting Parties will actively support nations fighting imperialism, colonialism and neo-colonialism, racism in all its forms and speeches, for freedom, for strengthening national independence and for social progress.
The Czechoslovak Party will support the fair efforts of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea to withdraw foreign troops and nuclear weapons from the South of the Korean Peninsula and for the separate, peaceful unification of Korea.
The Korean Party will support the peaceful foreign policy of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and its efforts to mitigate tensions and the development of good neighbourly relations and cooperation in Europe and to consolidate peace and security worldwide.
The High Contracting Parties will continue to cooperate with other socialist and progressive forces in the world in ensuring international peace and security, cooperation between nations, broadening and deepening the process of easing international tensions, stopping arms races and achieving universal and complete disarmament, including nuclear, as well as the creation of nuclear-free peace zones in different parts of the world, and striving for a final elimination of aggression and war from the lives of all nations.
The High Contracting Parties shall inform and consult each other on important international issues as well as on other issues of interest to both Parties.
This Treaty shall enter into force on the date of the exchange of notes confirming that the necessary conditions for the entry into force of the Treaty have been fulfilled in both States.
This Treaty shall be concluded for a period of 20 years and shall be extended silently for another 10 years, unless one of the High Contracting Parties is terminated in writing 12 months before the expiry of the period.
Dane in Pyongyang on 11 September 1988 in two copies in Czech and Korean, the two texts being equally authentic.
