of 19 December 1977
amending and supplementing the Act of the Slovak National Council No. 74 / 1963 Coll., on the Slovak Academy of Sciences, as amended by the Act of the Slovak National Council No. 43 / 1970 Coll.
The Slovak National Council agreed on this law:
The Slovak National Council Act No. 74 / 1963 Coll., on the Slovak Academy of Sciences, as amended by the Slovak National Council Act No. 43 / 1970 Coll. is amended as follows:
1. The words "or on a proposal from the Bureau of the Academy" shall be added for the current text of Section 9.
2. The second sentence of Paragraph 13 (1) reads as follows:
"The President of the Academy shall take continuous care of the Academy's tasks; he shall be responsible for the performance of his duties by the Government of the Socialist Republic of Slovakia. ';
3. Article 13 (3), (4) and (5) reads as follows:
"(3) The members of the Academy Bureau shall be the Chair of the Academy, the Vice-Presidents of the Academy, the other members of the Bureau and the Scientific Secretary of the Academy. The Vice-Presidents of the Academy and other members of the Bureau of the Academy shall be appointed from among the members of the Academy. The Vice-Presidents of the Academy and the Scientific Secretary of the Academy are appointed and dismissed by the Government of the Slovak Socialist Republic on a proposal from the President of the Academy. Other members of the Bureau of the Academy shall be appointed and dismissed by the Government of the Slovak Socialist Republic, as a general rule, on the basis of an election by the General Assembly of the Academy Members or on a proposal from the Bureau of the Academy.
(4) The number of Vice-Presidents of the Academy as well as the number of other members of the Academy Bureau is determined by the Government of the Slovak Socialist Republic.
(5) The term of office of the Bureau of the Academy lasts for five years. "

(1) The Bureau of the Academy or the Chair of the Academy may entrust individual members of the Bureau with the provision of certain activities; In particular, they shall entrust the Vice-Presidents of the Academy with the care of coordination and complexity of work in the various fields of scientific research. The Bureau of the Academy may also set up commissions and other auxiliary bodies on a proposal from the President of the Academy to provide management and organisational work.
(2) The members of the Bureau of the Academy shall be responsible for, report to, and submit their proposals to, the Bureau of the Academy and to the President of the Academy, as appropriate, the tasks referred to in paragraph 1 and the heads of committees and other auxiliary bodies. "
5. The following Section 14a is inserted after Section 14:
(1) The Bureau of the Academy ensures that academics and correspondents participate creatively in the development of their scientific field, scientific research and the realisation of results in their scientific field and contribute to the development of socialist science and socialist society.
(2) The Bureau of the Academy shall evaluate the activities of academics and correspondents on a regular basis and in at least five years.
(3) On the basis of the evaluation referred to in paragraph 2, the Bureau of the Academy may submit proposals to the Government of the Slovak Socialist Republic for the withdrawal of the membership of an academic or member of a correspondent if it fails to perform the tasks referred to in paragraph 1 and in Paragraph 10 (1). ';
6. Article 15 (2) reads as follows:
"(2) The President and the other members of the scientific colleges shall, on a proposal from the President of the Academy, appoint and dismiss the Bureau of the Academy which shall direct their activities. The President of the Scientific College shall be responsible for the performance of his duties as Bureau of the Academy and Chair of the Academy. ';

The Academy's tasks in the field of administrative, economic and organisational activities are provided by the Academy apparatus. The Bureau of the Academy shall determine how the Academy apparatus is to be managed. ';
8. Paragraph 18 (2) reads as follows:
"(2) The Head of the Institute is the Director (Head), who is appointed and dismissed by the Academy Bureau on a proposal from the President of the Academy. The Director (Head) shall direct all work of the Institute and shall be responsible for it to the Bureau of the Academy and to the President of the Academy. ';
9. In Paragraph 18 (3), the words "Head of a Scientific Institute 'are replaced by the words" Director of a Scientific Institute'.
10. in Article 19 (2), the words "the duty of the manager (s)" shall be replaced by the words "the duty of the director (s)."
11. in Article 19 (4), "for four years" is replaced by "for five years."
12. In Section 20, the words "as well as the Academy apparatus' shall be inserted after the words" organisational services'.
13. The following Section 20a is inserted after Section 20:
The term of office of the current Bureau of the Academy shall end on the date of entry into force of this Act. '
This Act shall take effect on the day of its publication.
