on the Protocol between the Government of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and the Government of the German Democratic Republic on the equivalence of documents on education and scientific degrees and titles issued or awarded in the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and the German Democratic Republic
On 8 June 1978, the Protocol between the Government of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and the Government of the German Democratic Republic on the equivalence of documents on education and scientific degrees and titles issued or awarded in the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and the German Democratic Republic was signed in Berlin. The Protocol entered into force pursuant to Article 7 of the Agreement on the date of signature.
Czech version The Protocol shall be published simultaneously.

between the Government of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and the Government of the German Democratic Republic on the equivalence of evidence of education and scientific degrees and titles issued or awarded in the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and in the German Democratic Republic
Government of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and Government of the German Democratic Republic,
building on the Agreement between the Government of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and the Government of the German Democratic Republic on Cultural Cooperation, signed in Prague on 6 October 1964,
as well as from the Convention on the Reciprocal Recognition of Equivalent Documents on the Graduation of Medium, Medium Vocational and Higher Education Schools, as well as documents on the award of scientific degrees and degrees, signed in Prague on 7 June 1972,
led by the desire to contribute to the deepening and expansion of cooperation in science and education and to promote their socio-economic development,
they have agreed as follows:
The documents which are issued in the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic after the successful completion of the Gymnasium, secondary vocational schools completed by graduation or after completion of the studies in the relevant establishments for the education of senior workers and the documents issued in the German Democratic Republic after the successful completion of secondary schools providing full secondary education ending with the graduation examination or training courses are recognised as equivalent; these documents confirm that their holders have received education to the extent required in both countries for their studies in higher education and, where appropriate, for the pursuit of certain professions.
Documents issued in the German Democratic Republic after successful completion of engineering and vocational schools are recognised in the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic; These documents confirm that their holders have received vocational education and general education to the extent required in both countries for the study of the relevant field in universities.
The documents issued in the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and in the German Democratic Republic after the successful completion of universities of the same type are recognised as equivalent and confirm that their holders have received an education to the extent required for scientific aspirantism in accordance with the legislation of both States and, where appropriate, for the pursuit of a profession in the relevant professional field.
The Parties shall recognise as equivalent the following scientific degrees and titles awarded in the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and the German Democratic Republic:

The competent authorities of the Contracting Parties shall exchange comparative tables of the types and models of documents referred to in this Protocol.
Amendments and additions The Protocol shall be agreed in writing and shall enter into force as soon as it has been confirmed by an exchange of approval notes under the laws of both Parties.
This Protocol shall enter into force on the date of signature. It shall be negotiated for a period of five years and shall be extended by another five years each time unless it is terminated by either Party six months before the expiry of the relevant period.
Done at Berlin, 8.6.1978, in duplicate, each in the Czech and German languages, the two texts being equally authentic.
