Description
$5,000 bills dated November 1, 1945.
The banknote is printed on a special composition, yellow, with no watermark. On the expanded edge at one of the shorter sides of the banknote there are fine red and blue fibers in the paper material. The banknote is 87 mm wide and 190 mm long.
The main printing patterns on the face and on the reverse occupy almost the entire area of the paper, except for the white edge on the cheek on the left, on the reverse on the right, so that the colour fibres of the paper are more visible.
The printing on the face is done in brown black. The area of the print pattern has a fine vertical comma as a basis, which is thickened from the centre of the text to both sides.
On the right, on this base is the right-handedly enclosed image of Bedřich Smetana, engraved according to the original of Max Švabinski. The creator of Czech modern music is depicted here at the age when he was at the peak of his composing work, with his head almost facedown to the viewer. Under the likeness is the inscription in dark letters:
"BEDRICH METANA 1824-1884."
The portrait is accompanied by a belt from the floral laurel, stretching along the bottom of the banknote pattern.
On the right of the effigy is a smaller bright figure "5000" at the top and bottom.
In the left part of the print pattern, the text of the banknote is in dark capitals, except for the word marking of the value which is made by bright capitals with dark shadows:
"THIS BANKNOCK OF PAYMENT
_
_
IN PRE OF 1 NOVEMBER 1945.
National Bank of Czechoslovakia.
Dr. Jaroslav Heavenly
Dr. Murtin
Dr. L. Chmel
Counterfeiting is trivial. "
Under the first signature from the left, the yellow marking of the series of banknotes is the abbreviation "S." with two digits and a capital letter.
In the background of the text is a fine drawing of a Czechoslovak heraldic lion from a small state character, used here decoratively without the boundary of the shield.
At the top of the expanded edge of the banknote's face is the horizontally drawn figure "5000," and at the bottom similar figure in the middle of the four-pointed rose of fine white and black wool. Above the rose there is a six-digit serial number of the banknote in red.
The name of the author of the Smetana and Heraldic lion is on the bottom of the unprinted edge under the print pattern: "MAX SWABIN DEL." On the right is the name of the engraver: "JAN MRÁČEK SC." and in the middle of the company inscription:
"NATIONAL BANKNOTE PRINCIPLE
_
On the back of the banknote, the main printing is made in dark green colour and enclosed with all four sides with a guilloch frame made of fine white wavy mesh, accompanied by green wave fringes on the outside.
The whole inner space of the guilloch frame bears the picture of the National Theatre in Prague. The exterior architecture of the building is shown by a fine drawing in a view from Vltava. In the upper right corner of this painting there is a small inscription on the background of the sky:
_
Up along the guilloch frame is a dark tape with a light inscription:
"National Bank of Czechoslovakia ',
The inscription "5000" in the large, horizontally coloured letters between two large horizontally drawn corner digits is as follows:
_
and lower the background of the guilloche frame in bright letters:
_
The bottom side of the picture is decorated with lime leaves with flowers, partially covered with word marking and corner digits.
The name of the author and graphics of this side of the banknote is below the unprinted edge at the right corner of the frame:
"B. PHOTOŠEK."
The underprint of the reverse is a fine, light-gray net from parallel waves, running from left to right to down.
The expanded edge at the right side of the reverse of the banknote shall bear at the top a blue red comma figure "5000," a similar, horizontally coloured figure of green at the bottom. The green laurel wreath with ribbons and tricolor in national colours is displayed in the middle between the two digits.
