on the Agreement between the Government of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and the Government of the Republic of India on cooperation in the field of health and medical sciences
The Agreement between the Government of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and the Government of the Republic of India on cooperation in the field of health and medical sciences was signed in Prague on 5 January 1988. The Agreement entered into force on the date of signature of Article 10 thereof.
The Czech translation of the Agreement is announced simultaneously.

AGREEMENT
between the Government of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and the Government of the Republic of India on cooperation in the field of health and medical sciences

Desiring to deepen cooperation in health and medical sciences
and to extend and consolidate friendly relations between the two countries,
agree as follows:
The Parties shall develop cooperation and promote the mutual exchange of experience in the field of health, medical sciences and research so as to contribute to the continuous improvement of the health status of the people of both countries.
The Parties or institutions and bodies designated by them will exchange experience gained in the organisation and management of health services, in particular in the prevention and treatment of infectious diseases through health education, epidemiological surveys, improvements in hygiene and the use of medicines and medical devices. Both Parties shall also explore the possibilities of cooperation in the manufacture of medicines and pharmaceutical and medical equipment.
The Parties shall, upon request, exchange information and literature on international congresses, symposia and seminars dealing with the problems of medical and medical sciences held in the territory of both Parties.
The Parties shall promote and expand cooperation and exchange of experience and literature between research institutes, medical schools and other medical institutions and facilities of both States in the field of medical and healthcare education.
The Parties shall cooperate in the field of the education of health workers by:
1. At the request of one of the Contracting Parties, the other Contracting Party shall transmit its experts for the training of health professionals or allow the healthcare professionals of the other Contracting Party to be trained in its health facilities;
2. The Parties shall promote the exchange of educational experience in the field of health.
The Parties shall cooperate in technical assistance in the field of health and medical sciences by enabling the exchange of health workers and materials in these areas.
1. The Contracting Parties shall, at the request of the other Contracting Party, allow the constitutional treatment of the sick citizens of the other Contracting Party in accordance with the conditions laid down in the cooperation plans agreed pursuant to Article 8 of this Agreement.
2. In the event of an acute illness or accident, each Contracting Party shall provide the necessary medical care to the citizens of the other Contracting Party who are temporarily present in its territory.
The competent health ministries of both Parties shall be responsible for the implementation of this Agreement on the basis of cooperation plans agreed between the two Parties. These cooperation plans shall include the scope and financial conditions of mutual cooperation.
Cooperation under this Agreement will be financed by the Government of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic through the Ministry of Health of the Czech Socialist Republic and the Ministry of Health of the Slovak Socialist Republic and the Government of the Republic of India through the Ministry of Health and Family Care.
This Agreement shall enter into force on the date of signature.
This Agreement shall remain in force for a period of five years. After the expiry of this period, the Agreement shall be automatically extended by five years unless it is terminated in writing by one of the Contracting Parties six months before the expiry of the relevant period.
This Agreement may be amended by written agreement of both Parties.
