AGREEMENT
between the Government of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and the Austrian Federal Government
on the visa waiver
Government of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic
and
The Austrian Federal Government,
Wishing to deepen friendly relations between the two states, further facilitate tourism between the two States and thereby promote the personal contacts of their national citizens, they agree as follows:
1. National citizens of the Contracting States holding a valid passport may travel for a stay which does not serve a gainful purpose in the territory of the second Contracting State and reside there for up to 30 days without visas.
2. A visa is needed for carrying out a gainful activity or for a stay exceeding 30 days in the territory of the other Contracting State.
1. National citizens of the Contracting States holding a valid diplomatic passport may travel to and from the territory of the second Contracting State without visas for up to six months.
2. National citizens of the Contracting States holding a valid service passport may travel to and from the territory of the second Contracting State without visas for up to three months.
3. Holders of Czechoslovak or Austrian diplomatic or service passports who are members of a diplomatic mission or consular post of one Contracting State in the territory of the other Contracting State, or representatives of a Contracting State in international organisations having their registered office in the territory of the other Contracting State, or officials of such an organisation, may stay in the territory of the other Contracting State for the duration of their secondment without a visa.
4. Family members living with persons referred to in paragraph 3 in the common household may, for the duration of their secondment, stay without visas in the territory of the second Contracting State, provided they themselves hold Czechoslovak or Austrian diplomatic or service passports.
This Agreement does not exempt Czechoslovak or Austrian nationals who are present in the territory of the second Contracting State, from the obligation to comply with the laws and regulations in force there.
The Agreement shall be without prejudice to the right of the competent authorities of the Contracting States to refuse entry or stay to undesirable persons.
Any Contracting State may temporarily suspend the application of this Agreement, either in whole or in part, for reasons of public policy, security or health. The introduction and repeal of such measures shall be notified immediately to the other Contracting State in writing by diplomatic means.
The entry into force of the Agreement will cancel the exchange of notes between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Austria on the visa waiver for holders of diplomatic passports of 14 December 1967 and the Agreement between the Government of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and the Austrian Federal Government on the visa waiver for holders of service passports of 5 December 1975.
1. This Agreement shall enter into force on 1 February 1990.
2. This Agreement shall be negotiated for an indefinite period. It may be terminated at any time and shall expire three months after receipt of the written notification by diplomatic means to the other Contracting State.
