on the Protocol extending the period of validity of the Treaty on friendship, cooperation and mutual assistance signed in Warsaw on 14 May 1955
On 26 April 1985, the Protocol extending the period of validity of the Treaty on friendship, cooperation and mutual assistance signed in Warsaw on 14 May 1955 was signed in Warsaw.
The Protocol was approved by the Federal Assembly of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and ratified by the President of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic. The instrument of ratification was deposited with the Government of the People's Republic of Poland, depositary of the Protocol, on 31 May 1985.
The Protocol entered into force on 31 May 1985 on the basis of Article 2 thereof and entered into force on that date for the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic.

PROTOCOL
extending the period of validity of the Treaty on friendship, cooperation and mutual assistance signed in Warsaw on 14 May 1955
Member States of the Treaty on Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance - the People's Republic of Bulgaria, the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic, the People's Republic of Hungary, the Democratic Republic of Germany, the People's Republic of Poland, the Socialist Republic of Romania and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics - have decided to sign this Protocol and have agreed on the following:
The friendship, cooperation and mutual assistance agreement signed in Warsaw on 14 May 1955 shall remain in force for an additional 20 years. For the Contracting Parties which, within a year before the expiry of this period, do not submit a declaration of termination to the Government of the People's Republic of Poland, the Treaty shall remain in force for a further period of 10 years.
This Protocol shall be subject to ratification. The instruments of ratification will be handed over to the Government of the People's Republic of Poland.
The Protocol shall enter into force on the date on which the last instrument of ratification is surrendered. The Government of the People's Republic of Poland shall inform the other Member States of the surrender of each instrument of ratification for safekeeping.
Done at Warsaw, 26 April 1985, in one copy in the Bulgarian, Czech, Hungarian, German, Polish, Romanian and Russian languages, each text being equally authentic. The certified copies of this Protocol shall be forwarded by the Government of the People's Republic of Poland to all other Contracting Parties to the Protocol.
