Decree of the Minister for Foreign Affairs
of 4 May 1953
on a trade agreement between the Republic of Czechoslovakia and the Syrian Republic.
The Trade Agreement between the Republic of Czechoslovakia and the Syrian Republic, signed in Damascus on 30 July 1952, was approved by the Government on 28 October 1952 and by the National Assembly on 11 December 1952. It was ratified on 31 December 1952 by the President of the Republic.
The instruments of ratification were exchanged in Damascus on 12 March 1953.
This Agreement shall take effect in accordance with its Article: In effect 15 days after the replacement of the instruments of ratification, it became effective on 27 March 1953.

The following Agreement has been negotiated on behalf of the Republic of Czechoslovakia and the Republic of Syria:

TRADE AGREEMENT
between the Republic of Czechoslovakia and the Syrian Republic
The Government of the Czechoslovak Republic and the Government of the Syrian Republic, led by a desire to promote and develop as much trade as possible between the two countries, agreed as follows:
The Government of the Czechoslovak Republic and the Government of the Syrian Republic will provide each other with the most favourable treatment possible in developing the exchange of goods between the two countries under their applicable general import and export regulations.
Czechoslovak products or goods, imported directly from Czechoslovakia to Syria, will benefit from the lowest tariff when imported into the territory of the Syrian Republic. They shall in no case be subject to duties less favourable than those paid or payable in the Republic of Syria for products of the same nature from any other foreign country.
Syrian products or goods, imported directly from Syria to Czechoslovakia, will benefit from the lowest tariff when imported into the territory of the Czechoslovak Republic. They will in no way be subject to duties less favourable than those paid or payable in the Czechoslovak Republic for products of the same nature from any other foreign country.
The Contracting Parties shall guarantee each other the treatment of the State enjoying the greatest advantages, in particular as regards:
(a) customs duties and any other charges or charges payable on importation, export and transit of goods, exported from the territory of one of the Contracting Parties to the territory of the other Contracting Party and vice versa or accompanied by their respective customs territory;
(b) the rules and customs formalities applicable to the importation, export, transit, storage and transhipment of goods imported, exported or accompanied, as well as the relevant levies and charges;
(c) granting import and export authorisations.
Treatment as most favoured nation provided for in Articles II and III shall not apply:
(a) privileges granted or likely to be granted by either Party to facilitate border traffic;
(b) the advantages resulting from a customs union which is or could be negotiated by either Party;
(c) the special privileges and benefits which Syria has already granted or which some Arab countries would have granted.
This Agreement shall be ratified by each Party in agreement with its legislation. It shall take effect 15 days after the date of the replacement of the instruments of ratification to be implemented in Damascus. It shall be valid for a period of one year, which shall be tacitly renewed for another year, unless one of the two Contracting Parties denies the Agreement in writing at least three months before the end of each period.
On the conscience of the authorised representatives, duly authorised to do so, they signed this Agreement and pressed the seals of their respective governments.
