of 4 May 1953
on a trade agreement between the Republic of Czechoslovakia and the Republic of Lebanon.
The Trade Agreement between the Republic of Czechoslovakia and the Republic of Lebanon, signed in Beirut on 12 July 1952, was approved by the Government on 28 October 1952 and by the National Assembly on 11 December 1952. It was ratified on 31 December 1952 by the President of the Republic.
The instruments of ratification were exchanged in Beirut on 25 March 1953.
This Agreement shall take effect two days after the replacement of the instruments of ratification pursuant to Article 6 thereof and shall therefore become effective on 27 March 1953.

TRADE AGREEMENT
between the Republic of Czechoslovakia and the Republic of Lebanon.

The following Agreement was negotiated on behalf of the Czechoslovak Republic and the Republic of Lebanon:

TRADE AGREEMENT
between the Republic of Czechoslovakia and the Republic of Lebanon.
The Government of the Czechoslovak Republic and the Government of the Republic of Lebanon, guided by the desire to develop as much trade as possible between the two countries, having regard to their current economic arrangements, have agreed on the following provisions:
The Government of the Czechoslovak Republic and the Government of the Republic of Lebanon will provide each other with the most favourable treatment possible in developing the exchange of goods between the two countries under their applicable general import and export regulations.
Products or goods originating in and originating in the Czechoslovak Republic shall benefit from the lowest tariff on importation into the territory of the Republic of Lebanon. They shall in no case be subject to duties less favourable than those paid or payable in the Republic of Lebanon for products of the same nature from any other foreign country.
Products or goods originating in and originating in the Republic of Lebanon shall benefit from the lowest tariff on importation into the territory of the Czechoslovak Republic. They will in no way be subject to duties less favourable than those paid or payable in the Czechoslovak Republic for products of the same nature from any other foreign country.
The Contracting Parties shall guarantee each other the treatment of the State enjoying the greatest advantages, in particular as regards:
1. customs duties, charges and other charges imposed on importation, export and transit into goods or goods, exported from the territory of one of the Contracting Parties to the territory of the other Contracting Party and vice versa or accompanied by their respective customs territory;
2. the rules and customs formalities applicable to imports, exports, transit, storage and transhipment of goods exported, imported or accompanied, as well as the customs duties, fees and charges applicable.
Products or goods originating in the Republic of Czechoslovakia imported into the territory of the Republic of Lebanon through transit through the territory of one or more third countries, products or goods originating in the Republic of Lebanon, imported into the territory of the Republic of Czechoslovakia through transit through the territory of one or more third countries, as well as products or goods from third countries, imported through the territory of one or other Contracting Parties into the territory of the other Party, shall not be subject, on importation, to customs duties or levies other than imports directly from the country of origin or the country from which they originate.
This provision shall apply both to goods in direct transit and to goods which have undergone a change in the mode of transport, modification of the external presentation or storage for transit.
Treatment as the most favoured State provided for in the previous Articles shall not include:
1. privileges granted by one of the Contracting Parties to facilitate border traffic with neighbouring countries in a zone not exceeding 15 kilometres with either side of the border;
2. customs duties and privileges resulting from the customs union;
3. customs duties, privileges and preferential advantages granted or granted by the Republic of Lebanon to any Arab country.
This Agreement shall be ratified in agreement with the legislature of each of the Parties and the exchange of instruments of ratification shall take place as soon as possible in Beirut.
It shall be put into effect two days after the replacement of the instruments of ratification and shall remain in force for an indefinite period, unless it has been terminated by one or the other of the Contracting Parties, having three months' notice.
Which, on the conscience of the relevant officers, duly authorised to do so, they signed this agreement and pressed their seals to it.
