Government Regulation
of 3 June 1953
on the Government Committee on Geology and the Central Geological Institute.
The Government of the Czechoslovak Republic orders, with the consent of the President of the Republic pursuant to § 1 of the Constitutional Act No. 47 / 1950 Coll., on adaptations in the organisation of public administration:
In order to ensure uniform planning, coordination of management and uniform control of geological work throughout national territory, a Government Committee on Geology (hereinafter referred to as the Committee) is hereby established.
The tasks of the Committee shall be:
(a) identify, with a view to ensuring the main development prospects of the national economy, the tasks of geological research and research work carried out to secure the various sectors of industry with proven mineral reserves;
(b) coordinate the plan of all geological research and research work;
(c) to issue binding directives, standards and guidelines for the implementation of geological research and research work;
(d) to check the geological research and research work carried out by the Central Geological and Ministerial Institute;
(e) classify the stocks of mineral deposits and approve the calculations of the stocks of such deposits, through the Panel on the Classification of Mineral Resources Stocks, the members of which are appointed by the Government;
(f) collect, assess and register the results of geological research and research work submitted to the Commission for the classification of mineral deposits;
(g) take care to ensure the necessary geological cadres and co-operate in their distribution;
(h) carry out in its field other tasks imposed on it by the Government.
The chairman of the Committee, its representative and the other members of the Committee shall be appointed and removed by the Government.
The executive body of the Committee shall be its secretariat, which shall be staffed and organised in the Bureau of the Government.
(1) A Geological Institute (hereinafter referred to as the Institute) is established from the present Geological Institute of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences. The seat of the Institute is Prague. The Government shall establish branches of this Institute as required.
(2) The Institute is subordinate to the Prime Minister.
The task of the Institute shall be:
(a) carry out basic geological research, systematic geological mapping and geological research and research work aimed at finding new mineral deposits;
(b) issue geological maps and specialised geological publications.
The director is head of the Institute. The Director of the Institute and his Deputy Director shall be appointed and dismissed by the Government.
Details of the organisation and competence of the Institute shall be laid down in the Statute issued by the Institute with the approval of the Government.
The employees of the current Geological Institute of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences and its branches become employees of the Central Geological Institute.
This Regulation shall enter into force on 1 July 1953; They shall be carried out by the Prime Minister, the Minister-President of the State Planning Office and the Ministers of Fuel, Metal Industry and ore mines and building materials.
