The Ministry of Foreign Affairs states that on 7 July 1978 the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW), 1978 was adopted in London.
The Charter on the Access of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic to the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping of Seafarers, 1978, was deposited with the Secretary General of the International Maritime Organisation on 6 May 1981.
The Convention entered into force on 28 April 1984 on the basis of its Article XIV (1) and entered into force on that date for the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic.
On 19 October 1993, the Czech Republic notified the Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organisation that, in accordance with the applicable principles of international law, the successor State of the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic was to be considered, with effect from 1 January 1993, as bound by the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW), 1978, of 7 July 1978, as amended.
