THE LAW
of 21 January 2004
on the security of the President of the Republic after the end of his duties
Parliament has decided on this law of the Czech Republic:
The President of the Republic shall be entitled to a pension of CZK 50 000 per month after the end of his term of office ("the former President of the Republic '). The rent shall be payable in advance within 5 working days of the beginning of the calendar month concerned, starting from the calendar month following the month in which the term of office ended.
The former President of the Republic shall be entitled to a multi-purpose flat-rate refund, which shall in particular cover the rent associated with the use of a adequately equipped office and the assistant's remuneration, totalling CZK 50,000 per month. The multiple-purpose flat-rate compensation is payable together with the rent referred to in § 1.
If, after the end of his term of office, the former President of the Republic has not been granted protection under a special law, (1) including the assignment of a vehicle with a driver, the former President of the Republic shall be entitled to use a State-owned vehicle with or without the driver on his own account after the end of his term of office.
If the President of the Republic has been punished for loss of office and his ability to regain office, 2) he will not be entitled to claims under this law.
(1) The former President of the Republic shall cease claims under this Act on the last day of the calendar month in which he becomes President of the Republic, Member, Senator, Member of the Government, Member, Vice-President or President of the Supreme Audit Office, Member, Vice-President or Chairman of the Broadcasting Council, Director of the Security Information Service, Judge, Chairman or Inspector of the Office for the Protection of Personal Data, Member of the Banking Board of the Czech National Bank, Ombudsman or his representative.
(2) The former President of the Republic shall cease to be entitled under this law on the last day of the calendar month in which the decision of the court which sentenced him to an intentional offence became final.
The former President of the Republic whose term of office ended before the date of entry into force of this Act shall be entitled under this Act to the date of entry into force of this Act.
This law shall take effect on the first day of the calendar month following its publication.
