on the organisation of the school year in primary schools, secondary schools and youth schools requiring special care
The Ministry of Education of the Czech Socialist Republic, after consulting the Ministry of Health of the Czech Socialist Republic, provides pursuant to § 38 paragraph 2 of Act No. 29 / 1984 Coll., on the System of Primary and Secondary Schools (School Act):
§ 1
Basic provisions
This decree regulates the organisation of the school year in primary schools, secondary vocational schools, grammar schools, secondary vocational schools and youth schools requiring special care ("schools').
§ 2
School period
(1) The teaching period begins on 1 September and ends on 30 June of the following calendar year and is divided into first and second half years. The first half of the school course shall begin on 1 September and end on 31 January of the following calendar year; the second half shall begin on 1 February and end on 30 June.
(2) If the beginning of the first half of a school course on a Friday or a working Saturday is the beginning of the next Monday, if the end of the second half is a Monday, the teaching will end on the previous Friday or Saturday.
(3) In secondary vocational schools where vocational experience is included in the curriculum in July and August, the second half of the school course ends on Friday, the second full week of June.
(4) In the third year of secondary medical schools and in the first year of post-secondary qualification in secondary medical schools, the second half of the year ends on Friday before starting compulsory four-week professional experience. This practice starts on Monday, which covers 31 May to 5 June.
(5) On the last day of each semester, pupils shall receive a certificate, except in the last years of their studies in gymnastics and secondary vocational schools, where the certificate is given to pupils together with a certificate of graduation, final graduation or graduate examination. In the year of completion of the study in the teaching fields, pupils of secondary vocational schools and special vocational schools will receive a certificate in the last week of teaching before the beginning of the final examination. Specific provisions apply to the certificate of graduation and the certificate of final examination. 1)
(6) If there is a transfer of working time during the school period, 2) this transfer also applies to schools.
§ 3
School holidays period
(1) Winter holidays last from 23 December to 2 January of the following calendar year inclusive. If December 23 is on Tuesday, winter holidays shall begin before Monday; in the year when January 3 falls on Friday, it ends on that day.
(2) Spring break lasts a week and their deadline is set no later than the last week of August by the National School Committee, which is the head of the school, ranging from the first full week in February to the last full week in March. 3) The opinion of the local competent authority of the hygienist and trade union board shall be sought to establish the deadline.
(3) The main holidays last from the end of the second semester of school until the beginning of the first semester in the new school year. In schools whose curriculum provides for vocational training for pupils, 4) pupils practice this practice during school holidays, in particular the main holidays.
§ 4
Adjustment of teaching time
The schools referred to in § 1 are taught in the five-day teaching week.
§ 5
Repeal
The Decree of the Ministry of Education of the Czech Socialist Republic No. 94 / 1978 Coll., on the organisation of the school year in primary and secondary schools is hereby repealed.
§ 6
The decree shall take effect on 1 September 1987.
