The Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs states that on 27 June 1990 an Exchange of Note of the Agreement on the abolition of the visa requirement between the Government of the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic and the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany was agreed. The Arrangement entered into force on 1 July 1990.
The Czech version of the Czechoslovak note and the translation of the German note are announced simultaneously.

Minister,
I have the honor You, on behalf of the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany, will propose to facilitate tourism between the Federal Republic of Germany and the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic the following Agreement on the abolition of the visa requirement:
1. Czechoslovak nationals who hold a valid travel document and do not intend to stay in the Federal Republic of Germany for more than 3 months or engage in gainful activities may travel to the Federal Republic of Germany and reside there without a visa (residence permit in the form of a visa).
2. German nationals who hold a valid travel document and do not intend to stay in the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic for more than 3 months or engage in a gainful activity may travel to the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic and reside there without a visa (visa permit).
3. Both Parties shall exchange models of valid travel documents in due time before the entry into force of this Arrangement.
4. If one Party enters a new travel document after the entry into force of this Arrangement, it shall notify the other Party by diplomatic means no later than 30 days before its introduction, including the sending of a specimen.
5. This Arrangement does not exempt German nationals and Czechoslovak nationals from the obligation to respect its applicable laws and regulations during their stay in the territory of the other Party.
6. The competent authorities of both Parties shall reserve the right to refuse entry or prohibit the residence of undesirable persons.
7. The two Parties shall always take over their nationals holding a valid travel document without formalities on their territory.
8. Both Parties shall also take over their nationals who do not hold a valid travel document. Where necessary, they shall be issued with a travel document by the appropriate diplomatic or consular representations.
9. Each Party may, for reasons of public policy, safety or health or other serious reasons, suspend for a transitional period, in whole or in part, the implementation of the above provisions. Such interruption and its termination shall be communicated without delay to the other Party by diplomatic channels.
10. According to the four-party agreement of 3 September 1971, this Arrangement will be extended to Berlin (Western) in accordance with the procedures laid down.
11. This Agreement shall enter into force on 1 July 1990.
12. This Arrangement may be terminated at any time, subject to a period of 3 months. The denunciation shall be communicated to the other Party by diplomatic channels.
If the Government of the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic agrees with the proposals contained in paragraphs 1 to 12, this note and the note expressing your Government's consent will constitute the Arrangement between our two governments.

I have the honour to confirm the receipt of your note of 27 June 1990, in which on behalf of your government you propose the conclusion of an agreement on visa waiver between the Government of the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic and the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany. The text of your note in the agreed Czech version is as follows:
"Minister,
I have the honor You, on behalf of the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany, will propose to facilitate tourism between the Federal Republic of Germany and the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic the following Agreement on the abolition of the visa requirement:
1. Czechoslovak nationals who hold a valid travel document and do not intend to stay in the Federal Republic of Germany for more than 3 months or engage in gainful activities may travel to the Federal Republic of Germany and reside there without a visa (residence permit in the form of a visa).
