Copenhagen, 5 June 1990
Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Your Excellency,
I have the honor To inform you that in order to facilitate travel between Denmark and the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic, the Government of Denmark is prepared to conclude an agreement with the Government of the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic under the following conditions:
Agreement between Denmark and the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic on visa waiver
Citizens of the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic holding a valid passport of the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic may enter Denmark freely through an officially approved border crossing point and reside in Denmark without visas for a period not exceeding three months. That period of three months shall be calculated from the date of entry into the territory of one of the Nordic States, which is a Contracting Party to the Convention of 12 July 1957 on the waiver of passport control at the internal borders. Any stay in one of those States during the six months preceding the entry into the territory of one of those States from a non-Norwegian State shall be counted against the abovementioned period of three months.
Danish citizens holding valid Danish passports may freely enter the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic through any officially approved border crossing point and reside in the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic without visas for a period not exceeding three months.
The visa waiver shall not exempt persons covered by this Agreement from the need to comply with applicable laws and regulations of the competent State concerning entry, residence, temporary or permanent employment.
The authorities of both states reserve the right to refuse entry and residence permits in the country to citizens of the other State deemed undesirable.
The authorities of both states undertake to accept every citizen in their territory without formalities.
Each of the two governments may, for reasons of public policy, suspend in whole or in part the abovementioned provisions, with the exception of Article 5. This suspension shall be notified immediately by diplomatic channels to the other Government.
This Agreement shall enter into force on 15 June 1990. The Agreement may be terminated by written notice to each Government, the denunciation being effective one month after the date of notification.
If the above proposals are acceptable to the Government of the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic, I have the honour of proposing that this letter and your Excellency's reply form an agreement between the two governments on this matter.
Please accept, Your Excellency, the assurance of my highest respect.
