THE LAW
of 29 June 2000
on public holidays, other holidays, significant days and working days
Parliament has decided on this law of the Czech Republic:
§ 1
National Holidays
Days 1 January - Day of Reconstruction of the Independent Czech State, 8 May - Day of Victory, 5 July - Day of Slavic Announcements of Cyril and Methodius, 6 July - Day of Burning of Master Jan Hus, 28 September - Day of Czech State, 28 October - Day of Creation of the Independent Czechoslovak State and 17 November - Day of Fight for Freedom and Democracy and International Student Day are declared National Holidays of the Czech Republic (hereinafter referred to as "National Holidays").
§ 2
Other holidays
The other holidays are 1 January - New Year, Good Friday, Easter Monday, 1 May - Labour Day, 24 December - Christmas Day, 25 December - Christmas Day and 26 December - Christmas Day ("other holidays").
§ 3
Days of work rest
National holidays and other holidays shall be working days, except for the continuous rest of the staff member of the week.
§ 4
Significant Days
(1) The important days of the Czech Republic are the 16th January - Day of the memory of Jan Palach, 27th January - Day of the victims of the Holocaust and the prevention of crimes against humanity, 8th March - International day of women, 9th March - Day of the victims of the extermination of the Teresian family camp in Auschwitz - March 12 - Day of accession of the Czech Republic to the North Atlantic Treaty (NATO), 28th March - Day of birth of John Amos Komensky, 7th April - Day of education, 1st May - Day of accession of the Czech Republic to the European Union, 5th May - May - Day of the leaving of the Occupation, 27th May - Day of the families, 27th May - Day of the victims of the national resistance, 10th June - Day of the victims of the extermination of the village of the Warsaw, 8th October - Memorial day, 12th day of the foundation, 1st October - Day of the day of the second day of the Czech Republic - Day of the Czech Republic - Day of the European Union, June, June - May - May - May - Day of accession.
(2) Significant days are working days, if not also public holidays or other holidays.
§ 5
Repeal
They shall be deleted:
1. Act No. 93 / 1951 Coll., on the National Day, on working days and on memorable and important days, as amended by Act No. 65 / 1965 Coll. and Act No. 74 / 1994 Coll.
2. Act No. 56 / 1975 Coll., amending Act No. 93 / 1951 Coll., on National Holidays, on Days of Employment and on Memorial and Significant Days.
3. Legislative measure of the Bureau of the Federal Assembly No. 141 / 1988 Coll., amending and supplementing Act No. 93 / 1951 Coll., on a public holiday, on working days and on memorable and important days.
4. Act No. 167 / 1990 Coll., amending and supplementing Act No. 93 / 1951 Coll., on public holidays, on working days and on memorable and important days, as amended.
5. Act No. 204 / 1990 Coll., on the Declaration of the 6th July, the day of the burning of Master Jan Hus, for the national holiday of the Czech Republic.
6. Act No. 218 / 1991 Coll., amending and supplementing Act No. 93 / 1951 Coll., on National Holidays, on Days of Employment and on Memorial and Significant Days, as amended.
§ 6
Efficacy
This Act shall take effect on the day of its publication.
