Ministry of Foreign Affairs
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs states that on 6 October 1994 the Agreement on Cultural Cooperation between the Government of the Czech Republic and the Government of the Republic of Korea was signed in Seoul.
The Agreement entered into force on 24 October 1994 on the basis of Article 9 (2) thereof.
The Czech version of the Agreement is hereby published at the same time.
AGREEMENT
on cultural cooperation
between the Government of the Czech Republic and the Government of the Republic of Korea
the Government of the Czech Republic and the Government of the Republic of Korea (hereinafter referred to as the "Contracting Parties');
led by the desire to strengthen existing friendly links between the two States;
convinced that cooperation in the fields of culture, art, education, science, information and sport will contribute to increasing mutual understanding between citizens of both states;
agree as follows:
For the purpose of closer understanding between the citizens of the two States and the development of cooperation in the fields of culture, art, education, science, information and sport, the Parties shall in particular promote:
(a) mutual visits to and activities of actors, writers, painters, musicians, dancers and other representatives of culture and art;
(b) exchange visits to scientists, professors, teachers, researchers and students;
(c) exchange visits to journalists and correspondents and cooperation between press and news agencies;
(d) exchange visits by athletes or sports clubs and their friendly matches and cooperation between their organisations;
(e) exchange visits to young people and cooperation between their organisations;
(f) the exchange and dissemination of radio and television programmes, films, books, periodicals and other publications and cooperation between publishers and radio and television organisations;
(g) the translation and publication of works of art, literature and science;
h) organising exhibitions and artistic events in general.
1. The Parties shall promote direct cooperation between universities and the scientific and educational institutions of their States.
2. The Parties shall encourage the launch of courses and lectures from the humanities of the second State at universities and similar institutions of their States.
Each Contracting Party shall allow the establishment of cultural institutions in its territory in accordance with the laws in force in its State.
In the areas covered by this Agreement, the Contracting Parties shall base their provision of official information on the other State on the geographical and historical facts of the other State.
The Contracting Parties shall examine the methods and conditions for the mutual recognition of academic degrees, diplomas and other educational documents issued or awarded by their respective educational institutions.
All activities of the Contracting Parties under this Agreement shall comply with the legislation in force in the State in which the activities take place.
In order to implement this Agreement, the Contracting Parties may conclude implementing programmes for certain periods of time.
All issues related to the interpretation of this Agreement shall be dealt with by diplomatic means.
1. The Contracting Parties shall notify each other by diplomatic means of the fulfilment of the national conditions necessary for the entry into force of this Agreement.
2. This Agreement shall enter into force on the date of subsequent notification.
1. This Agreement shall be negotiated for a period of five years and shall continue to be automatically extended for another five years, unless one of the Contracting Parties denies it in writing not later than six months before the expiry of the period of validity of the Agreement.
2. Termination of this Agreement shall not affect the implementation of projects or programmes negotiated under this Agreement but not fully completed at the time of termination of this Agreement.
To prove the signature below, duly empowered by their governments, they signed this agreement.
Dane in Seoul on 6 October 1994 in two original copies, each in Czech, Korean and English, all texts being equally authentic. In case of differences in interpretation, the English language version shall be decisive.
