The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announces that on 29 October 1992 a contract was signed in Prague between the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic on personal documents, travel documents, driving documents and vehicle registration.
The Czech National Council has agreed with the Treaty and has ratified it on behalf of the President of the Czech Republic.
The Treaty has been applied provisionally on the basis of Article 8 since 1 January 1993 and entered into force on 3 May 1993.
The Czech version of the Treaty is hereby published at the same time.

guided by the desire to facilitate and deepen cooperation between security authorities on personal documents, travel documents, driving licences and vehicle registration
agree on the following:
The Contracting Parties undertake to recognise, for a period of five years from the date of expiry of the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic, the validity of personal and travel documents, driving licences, certificates for drivers of road motor vehicles, technical licences for motor vehicles (trailers) issued by the competent authorities for the entire territory of the former Czech and Slovak Federal Republic.
The Contracting Parties undertake, within six months of the entry into force of this Treaty, to issue generally binding legislation laying down the procedure and setting a time limit for the marking of citizenship in civil certificates in cases where the identity card is to be used as a document authorising travel and residence in the territory of the other Contracting Party. They shall inform each other of the issue of this legislation.
(1) The Contracting Parties undertake, after the establishment of two separate States, to recognise in their territory the validity of documents issued by the competent administrative authorities of the other Contracting Party to the following extent:
(a) an identity card, a nationality document to one of the newly created States and a travel document to enter and stay in the territory of the other Contracting State;
(b) driving licences as evidence that the citizen is entitled to drive motor vehicles of the group concerned for a period of six months;
(c) the technical licences of motor vehicles (trailers) as evidence that the vehicle conforms to the approved type or has been approved for its technical competence only until the regulatory arrangements for the operation of vehicles on the road have been changed. A vehicle bearing this document shall be transferred to the Party Register provided it is in proper technical condition.
(2) A vehicle placed in service on the road of one Contracting Party which is not subject to registration shall be recognised as fit for use on the road of the other Contracting Party, provided that it has issued a technical certificate for the vehicle or the competent administrative authority and is in proper technical condition.
Certificates for drivers of road motor vehicles issued by the competent administrative authorities of one of the Contracting Parties shall not be recognised by the other Contracting Party.
(1) Travel documents issued under Act No. 63 / 1965 Coll., on travel documents, competent authorities and travel documents issued under Act No. 216 / 1991 Coll., on travel documents and travel abroad, the competent authorities are valid in the Czech Republic and Slovak Republic.
(2) Both Contracting Parties shall carry out the identification of travel documents issued until the end of the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic and issued after the creation of two separate States by the name of the State and the national emblem of the Contracting Party whose citizen is the holder of the travel document.
(3) General binding laws of the Contracting Parties shall specify the date by which travel documents with the national emblem of the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic may be issued. In addition, the generally binding legislation of both Contracting Parties shall specify the date by which the labelling of travel documents must be completed. Travel documents which will not be marked by that date shall no longer be valid.
The data contained in the transport and administrative records and the related file material shall be transmitted by both Parties on request. The detailed details of the particulars of the requests and the procedure for handling the requests shall be laid down in the implementing protocol to this Treaty.
This contract is for an indefinite period. The Contracting Parties may terminate it in writing at any time by diplomatic means, the Treaty being terminated six months after the date of receipt of the notice.
This Treaty shall enter into force after it has been approved by both Parties under their respective constitutional requirements. The Treaty shall be applied on a provisional basis as from 1 January 1993.
Dane in Prague on 29 October 1992 in two copies, each in the Czech and Slovak languages, both texts being equally authentic.
