Ministry of Foreign Affairs
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs states that the Agreement between the Government of the Czech Republic and the Government of the Republic of India on cooperation in the fields of culture, education and science was signed in Prague on 11 October 1996.
The Agreement entered into force on 29 July 1997 pursuant to Article 5 thereof. The Agreement between the Czechoslovak Republic and the Republic of India on Cultural Cooperation of 7 July 1959, published under No 61 / 1960 Coll., expired on that date.
The Czech version of the Agreement is hereby published at the same time. The English version of the Agreement, which is relevant for its interpretation, can be consulted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Culture.
AGREEMENT
between the Government of the Czech Republic and the Government of the Republic of India on cooperation in the fields of culture, education and science
Government of the Czech Republic and Government of the Republic of India ("the Contracting Parties')
having regard to traditional friendly relations,
showing their determination to develop and further strengthen friendship and cooperation in the fields of culture, art, education, science, sport and tourism,
agree as follows:
The Parties shall promote cooperation in the fields of culture, art, cultural heritage care, education, science, sport and tourism.
The Parties shall promote mutual cultural exchange and cooperation and, as far as possible, facilitate the development of direct relations between educational, scientific, research, cultural and sporting institutions of both States.
The Parties shall encourage the admission of citizens of the other State to study, lecture, scientific and research visits to their educational, cultural and scientific institutions in accordance with the legislation of both the sending and receiving Contracting Parties.
In order to implement this Agreement, the Parties may negotiate cooperation programmes for certain periods of time which shall include organisational and financial conditions for cooperation.
This Agreement shall be subject to approval in accordance with the national legislation of both Contracting Parties and shall enter into force on the date of the exchange of notes on such national approval. The date of the note exchange shall be the date of the later note.
This Agreement shall be negotiated for a period of five years and shall continue to be automatically extended for another five years, unless one of the Contracting Parties denies it in writing no later than six months before its expiry.
The date of entry into force of this Agreement shall be the expiry of the Agreement between the Czechoslovak Republic and the Republic of India on Cultural Cooperation, signed in New Delhi on 7 July 1959.
Dane in Prague on 11 October 1996 in two original copies, each in Czech, Hindi and English, all of which are authentic. In case of differences in interpretation, the English language version shall be decisive.
