THE LAW
of 16 December 1980
on the establishment of the Federal Office for Press and Information
The Federal Assembly of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic decided on this law:
A Federal Office for Press and Information is hereby established.
The Federal Press and Information Office is a federal central government body for the press and other means of information.
Federal Press and Information Office
(a) propose to the Government of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic the principles of state policy on press matters and other means of information and ensure its uniform implementation and coordination;
(b) carry out registration of periodicals of social importance;
(c) ensure the protection of important national interests in the press and other means of information of social importance;
(d) decide on the import and distribution of foreign periodical printing printed or reproduced abroad, on the extension of foreign periodical printing printed or reproduced in the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic by or at the direction of the foreign publisher, as well as on the extension of reporting to foreign intelligence agencies;
(e) decide to give consent to the duties of editor to persons who are not Czechoslovak citizens;
(f) authorises organisations which may extend periodical print 1 to publishers)
The competence of the Federal Office for Press and Information shall be subject mutatis mutandis to the provisions of Sections 2 to 9, Section 85 paragraph 1 and Section 86 of Act No. 133 / 1970 Coll., on the jurisdiction of federal ministries.
The Government of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic shall appoint and dismiss the President of the Federal Office of Press and Information.
This Law shall take effect on 1 January 1981.
