on the Treaty on friendship, cooperation and mutual assistance between the Czechoslovak Republic and the People's Republic of Bulgaria, negotiated in Prague, on 23 April 1948.
The Treaty on Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance between the Czechoslovak Republic and the People's Republic of Bulgaria, negotiated in Prague on 23 April 1948, was approved by the National Assembly on 29 April 1948 and ratified by the President of the Republic on 24 May 1948.
The instruments of ratification were exchanged in Sofia on 10 April 1949.
This Treaty entered into force, pursuant to Article VII thereof, immediately after signature, i.e. on 23 April 1948.

Dr. Edvard Beneš, President of the Czechoslovak Republic, to all who will read or read this letter, greetings.
The following Treaty has been negotiated on behalf of the Czechoslovak Republic and the People's Republic of Bulgaria:
TREATY
on friendship, cooperation and mutual assistance between the Czechoslovak Republic and the People's Republic of Bulgaria
PRESIDENT OF THE CZECH REPUBLIC AND PRESIDIUM OF THE NATIONAL COMPETITION OF THE PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF BULGARIA:
Believing that brotherly rapprochement and close cooperation correspond to the true feelings of the peoples of both Slavic countries, who see this as a serious support for their freedom and independence; being deeply aware that the traditional friendship between the Czechoslovak and Bulgarian people, reinforced by the establishment of popular democratic institutions in both countries, is an important factor in building friendship and cooperation with all Slavic and other democratic peoples and in ensuring peace; based on the experience of the last world war, when Germany invaded free-loving nations, and firmly determined to oppose all attempts to restore German imperialism; being concerned by the desire to consolidate and extend the economic ties between them and establish close economic cooperation for the benefit of both countries, for which their economic structure provides favourable conditions; Desiring also to solemnly confirm its unwavering will to defend its freedom, independence and territorial integrity in the future, and to correct relations with each other in the spirit of brotherhood and in order to strengthen peace and international cooperation; to this end they have decided to conclude a friendship, cooperation and mutual assistance agreement and have appointed their representatives:

THE PRESIDIUM OF THE NATIONAL SHORTAGE OF THE PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF BULGARIA,
Jiří Dimitrov, Prime Minister of the People's Republic of Bulgaria, who, having exchanged their powers of attorney and found them in good and proper form, agreed as follows:
The High Contracting Parties agree, in the interests of both countries and their peoples, to join together in a policy of lasting friendship, which will strengthen close, versatile synergies between the two countries.
The High Contracting Parties undertake to jointly take all measures in their power to prevent any threat in the future and to prevent an attack from taking place on the part of Germany or any other State which would contact it directly or in any other way.
To this end, the High Contracting Parties shall participate in the most sincere synergy of all international actions to maintain international peace and security and shall fully contribute to making this objective an act.
In implementing this Treaty, the High Contracting Parties shall respect their obligations to the Organisation of the United Nations and shall act in accordance with the principles laid down in the Charter of that Organisation.
If one of the High Contracting Parties were involved in a war action with Germany, which would attempt to restore its offensive policy in the future, or any other State that would directly or in any other way associate with Germany in an attack policy, the other High Contracting Party will immediately provide it with military and other assistance by any means at its disposal.
The High Contracting Parties undertake not to negotiate an alliance and not to participate in a coalition or in actions and measures directed against the other High Contracting Party.
The High Contracting Parties will consult each other on all serious international issues concerning the interests of both countries.
The High Contracting Parties will develop and consolidate economic, cultural and other relations between the two countries in a spirit of friendship and synergy, as well as under agreements and agreements to this end agreed.
This Treaty shall take effect immediately after signature and be ratified as soon as possible. The instruments of ratification will be exchanged in Sofia as soon as possible.
This Treaty shall remain in force for a period of 20 years from the date of signature. However, if none of the High Contracting Parties has communicated twelve months before the expiry of the twenty-year period that it wishes to terminate the Agreement, its effectiveness shall be extended for every five additional years until one of the High Contracting Parties has notified its intention to terminate the Agreement in writing 12 months before the end of the running five years.
Which in the conscience of the agents signed this treaty and attached their seals to it.
The contract was drawn up in duplicate, each in the Czech and Bulgarian languages, each of which is equally authentic.
