Law on the Office of the President of the Republic

THE LAW
of 20 December 1968
concerning the President's Office
The National Assembly of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic decided on this law:
§ 1
Tasks of the President's Office
(1) The Office of the President of the Republic provides the tasks associated with:
(a) with the office of President of the Republic resulting from the Constitution and from constitutional and other laws;
(b) the political and public activities of the President of the Republic;
(c) with the office of President of the Republic as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces,
(d) the handling of letters and suggestions by citizens and institutions to the President of the Republic or his office.
(2) The office of the President of the Republic manages and cares for the Prague Castle and its associated buildings as the seat of the President of the Republic and an important historical monument to our people. Provides historical care, technical and construction management of these buildings.
Organisation of the President's Office of the Republic
§ 2
(1) The President's Office is headed by the Head of the President's Office, appointed and withdrawn by the President's President.
(2) The Head of the President's Office is entitled to attend meetings of the Government of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic.
(3) In the performance of his duties, the Head of the Office of the President of the Republic shall be responsible to the President of the Republic.
§ 3
The role of President of the Republic as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces shall be performed by the Military Office of the President of the Republic. This office is headed by a chief appointed and dismissed by the President of the Republic, who is also directly subordinate to the President of the Republic.
§ 4
(1) The President of the Republic shall appoint and dismiss the senior staff of the President's Office.
(2) The internal organisation of the Office of the President of the Republic and of its special-purpose equipment, as well as of the staff covered by paragraph 1, shall be determined, with the agreement of the President of the Republic, by the Head of the Office of the President of the Republic in the Rules of Procedure of the Office of the President of the Republic.
(3) The internal organisation of the Military Office of the President of the Republic shall be determined by order.
(4) When occupying seats in the President's Office of the Republic, the representation of the citizens of both Republics must be ensured.
§ 5
Authorization of the President's Office
In order to carry out its tasks, the Office of the President of the Republic may request from the State authorities reports and explanations in matters falling within its field of competence.
Final provisions
§ 6
The amount of the salary to the Head of the President's Office of the Republic shall be determined by the President of the Republic in accordance with the principles laid down for the Heads of Federal Authorities.
§ 7
(1) Act No. 654 / 1919 Coll., establishing the Office of the President of the Republic, is hereby repealed.
(2) Without prejudice to the Government Decree number 55 / 1954 Coll., on the protected area of Prague Castle.
§ 8
This Act shall take effect on 1 January 1969.
