concerning the Cultural Cooperation Agreement between the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and the Republic of Iraq
On 7 May 1959, the Agreement on Cultural Cooperation between the Czechoslovak Republic and the Republic of Iraq was negotiated in Baghdad.
The agreement was approved by the Government on 2 September 1959.
The Agreement entered into force on 2 September 1959.
The Czech version of the Agreement is hereby published at the same time.

AGREEMENT
on cultural cooperation between the Czechoslovak Republic and the Republic of Iraq
Desiring to strengthen friendship between the people of the two countries and seeking to expand cooperation in the field of science, education and culture, the Government of the Czechoslovak Republic and the Government of the Republic of Iraq have decided to sign this Agreement and have been empowered to do so

who, after exchanging their full powers and verifying their accuracy, have agreed on the following:
The Parties shall develop cooperation and exchange of experience between the scientific, cultural, educational and health organisations of the two countries and, to this end, allow mutual visits to university professors, teachers of secondary schools and technical schools, as well as to members of the aforementioned organisations and other institutions.
Both Parties shall grant scholarships and other benefits to the citizens of the other Party and shall allow them to study at their universities, arts, engineering and other schools.
1. Within the framework of its laws and regulations, each Party shall allow the establishment of a cultural centre of the other Party in its territory.
The scope and activity of the cultural centre shall be defined by a specific agreement between the two Parties.
Both Parties will develop cultural relations, organise musical and artistic performances, lectures, art, archaeological and scientific exhibitions, allow mutual visits to cultural, artistic, sporting and student delegations and promote cooperation between official scientific organisations and artistic associations.
The Parties shall examine the issue of mutual recognition of diplomas and scientific degrees and, if they consider it necessary, shall negotiate a specific agreement for that purpose.
Both Parties will assist in the mutual development of visits between youth organisations and friendly matches between sports organisations.
Both Parties shall allow the mutual exchange of books, cultural, scientific and artistic journals, duplicates or castings of ancient monuments, cinema and television films and shall support the organisation of film festivals.
Both Parties shall make it possible to publish translations of significant scientific, cultural and artistic works of citizens of the other Party.
The two Parties shall assist in strengthening cooperation in the area of press, radio and television and shall facilitate the exchange of representatives of official press agencies.
Both Parties shall, as far as possible, base their universities or scientific institutions on the departments or sections of the study of language, culture and literature of the other Party.
1. In order to implement this Agreement, a cultural cooperation plan shall be established for each year, containing the principles and conditions of cultural actions between the two countries.
2. In order to discuss these annual plans, both Parties will appoint, through diplomatic representative offices, representatives to prepare those plans before the end of each current year.
Both Parties shall approve this Agreement in accordance with their constitutional requirements.
This Agreement shall enter into force on the date of the exchange of notes in Baghdad. Any amendment to this Agreement will enter into force after its approval by the governments of both countries. Each Contracting Party shall have the right to revoke this Agreement on condition that it notifies the other Contracting Party in writing six months before the date on which it intends to revoke the Agreement.
This Agreement has been signed by the relevant representatives in two original copies in Czech, Arabic and English. All three texts are equally authentic. In the case of different interpretations, the English text shall decide.
