THE LAW
of 19 December 1968
on gymnastics
The National Assembly of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic decided on this law:
§ 1
(1) Gymnasium is established to raise the level of secondary education.
(2) Gymnasium provides full secondary general education and prepares for university studies; Gymnasium graduates are also eligible for administrative and economic functions corresponding to their education.
(3) Gymnasium studies last four years and end with the graduation exam.
§ 2
(1) The Gymnasium is established by the Regional National Committees. Starting with the school year 1968 / 69, the regional national committees of secondary education schools will gradually transform into gymnasium.
(2) The organisation of and study in gymnastics, as well as the way in which secondary education schools will be transformed into gymnasium, will be adapted by the central authorities of the Czech Socialist Republic and the Slovak Socialist Republic, which are responsible for the performance of the public administration in school matters.
§ 3
Unless otherwise provided for in this law, gymnasium is subject to the legislation applicable to secondary education schools.
§ 4
The provisions of Sections 1 and 3 of this Act apply mutatis mutandis to military schools providing full secondary general education. The gradual transformation of these schools into gymnasium will be carried out by the Ministry of National Defence.
§ 5
This Act shall take effect on the day of its publication.
