on the Cooperation Agreement in the field of Culture, Science and Education between the Government of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and the Government of the Republic of Cyprus
On 16 April 1971, the Agreement on Cooperation in Culture, Science and Education between the Government of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and the Government of the Republic of Cyprus was signed in Prague.
Pursuant to Article 9 thereof, the Agreement entered into force on 1 July 1971.
The Czech version of the Agreement is hereby published at the same time.

AGREEMENT
on cooperation in the field of culture, science and education between the Government of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and the Government of the Republic of Cyprus
Government of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and Government of the Republic of Cyprus
led by efforts to extend cultural cooperation between the two countries in order to further develop mutual understanding between their peoples,
they have agreed as follows:
The Parties will develop cooperation in the fields of science, education, art, literature, press, film, radio, television, physical education and sport under this Agreement.
The Parties shall promote exchange visits and other contacts between scientists, cultural and educational workers, artists, mass media workers and representatives of physical education and sport.
The Parties shall invite the relevant representatives of the other Party to congresses, conferences, seminars and other expert meetings with international participation organised in their territory.
The Parties shall support efforts to better understand the civilisation and culture of the other State by all means, in particular by:
(a) exhibitions of cultural and information character,
b) concerts, theatre performances and other artistic performances, including folk dances and songs,
(c) translation and publication of literary and scientific works;
(d) exchanges of books, magazines and other publications of a cultural and scientific nature as well as of various audiovisual aids;
(e) exchange of printing, radio and television material;
(f) screening of artistic, scientific and educational films.
The Parties shall provide public citizens with a scholarship to study and research at their scientific, educational and cultural facilities and for study visits and research, including short-term visits to school staff to familiarise themselves with the school system of that State and with short-term teacher training courses.
To this end, the Parties shall facilitate access to their libraries, archives, museums, galleries and other cultural and scientific institutions to such scientists, researchers and scientists.
The Parties will also cooperate in the provision of educational facilities for teaching purposes.
The Parties shall recognise, in accordance with their national rules, the scientific grades, titles, certificates and diplomas awarded or issued by the competent authorities of the other Contracting Party.
The Parties shall endeavour to deepen further contacts on physical education and sport, in particular by promoting the cooperation and exchange of athletes, physical experts and sports cooperatives as well as the organisation of sport competitions.
In order to implement this Agreement, the Contracting Parties will always negotiate, for certain periods of time, implementation plans setting out specific cooperation actions and financial conditions.
These implementation plans shall be prepared and discussed by a Joint Commission composed of an equal number of members for both Parties. The Commission will meet alternately in Prague and Nicosia, and both parties can invite their experts to its meetings.
In the period between meetings of the Commission, the agreed implementation plan may be amended by mutual agreement between the two Parties through diplomatic channels.
The Parties shall continue their bilateral cooperation, as far as possible, also within the framework of international scientific, educational and cultural organisations.
This Agreement shall be subject to approval under the constitutional requirements of each of the Contracting Parties and shall enter into force on the date on which both Contracting Parties notify each other of such approval.
This Agreement shall be negotiated for a period of five years and shall be extended for another five years each time, unless either Party denies it six months before the expiry date.
Written in Prague on 16 April 1971 in two copies, each in the Czech and Greek languages, the two texts being equally authentic.
