THE LAW
of 17 November 1960
on the national emblem and the national flag
The National Assembly of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic decided on this law:
§ 1
Signature
(1) The state emblem of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic consists of a red shield shaped by the Hussite's shield with a five-pointed star in the upper part, on which is a white two-tail lion carrying a red label on the chest with a blue silhouette of Krivana and a flag of gold color. The character drawing is gold (Article 110 (1) of the Constitution).
(2) A detailed representation of the state emblem is given in Annex 1 to this Act.
§ 2
State flag
(1) The national flag of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic consists of the lower field of the red and top white, between which a blue wedge is inserted from the mast to the centre of the flag (Article 110 (2) of the Constitution). On festive occasions, a flag formed by state flag may be used.
(2) The depiction of the State flag and the relative ratio of its fields and wedges are set out in Annex 2 to this law.
§ 3
Standard of the President of the Republic
(1) The standard of the President of the Republic is white, with white, blue and red edges. There's a national emblem in the middle of it. Lip branches on its sides. Under the state sign is the password "Truth wins" on the ribbon of red color. The letters of the inscription are gold colors.
(2) A detailed representation of the standard of the President of the Republic and the relative ratio of its dimensions are given in Annex 3 to this Act.
§ 4
State Seal
(1) The State Seal of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic is a state emblem with lipos branches on the sides, around which is the circular inscription "Czechoslovak Socialist Republic."
(2) The State Seal of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic is kept by the President of the Republic.
Use of national emblem and flag
§ 5
(1) The National Assembly, the President of the Republic, the Government, the Slovak National Council, the National Committees, the ministries and other central authorities of the state administration, the Czechoslovak representative offices, the courts, the prosecution and the authorities of the government.
(2) The state emblem and flag are also used by the armed forces and security forces of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic.
(3) Furthermore, the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences, Schools, Cultural and Scientific Institutions and State Organisations, which will be determined by the Government, take account of the nature of their tasks, use the State emblem and flag.
(4) The details of the use of the State emblem and the State flag in the armed forces are laid down by the President of the Republic, in other sections by the Government.
§ 6
National emblem and national flags may be used on festive occasions by voluntary social organisations of workers, businesses and other organisations as well as individual citizens.
Transitional and final provisions
§ 7
The existing state emblems will gradually be replaced by the state emblems established by the Constitution of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic. Transitional measures shall be specified by the Government.
§ 8
It shall be repealed:
1. Act No. 252 / 1920 Coll., issuing provisions on the State flag, the State emblem and the State seal;
2. Act No. 269 / 1936 Coll., on the use of flags, signs and other symbols, as well as uniforms and badges, and on measures against malicious markings;
3. Rules issued under the laws referred to in Nos 1 and 2.
§ 9
This Act shall take effect on the day of its publication.
