TRADE AGREEMENT
between the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and the Australian Community
Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and Australian Community
wishing to develop mutually beneficial trade between the two countries; and
having regard to the objectives of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade, of which both countries are Contracting Parties,
agree as follows:
The exchange of goods between the two countries will take place in accordance with the rights and obligations they have as Parties to the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade.
The Contracting Parties to this Agreement shall take all appropriate measures to facilitate and strengthen trade between the two countries and to participate in it in a greater number of goods, both traditional and newly eligible exports, with a view to continuously expanding mutually beneficial trade.
The Parties to this Agreement shall encourage the conclusion and access of international raw material agreements aimed at improving the conditions of international trade in raw materials in which they are directly interested.
Contracts for the exchange of goods governed by this Agreement may be concluded by Czechoslovak legal persons authorised to do business abroad and by Australian legal and natural persons.
All salaries relating to trade between the two countries will be made in freely convertible currency.
The Joint Trade Committee shall be established to support the objectives of this Agreement. The Committee will assess the steps that should be taken to improve the knowledge of relevant organisations in both countries on trade policy and practice in the other country. The Committee will evaluate the development of trade between the two countries, examine the problems that could be a barrier to trade development, and assess appropriate measures to facilitate trade growth.
The Committee will meet in Canberra or Prague according to a joint arrangement.
This Agreement shall enter into force on the day on which the Contracting Parties to this Agreement exchange notes confirming to each other that it has been complied with by the constitutional and other provisions laid down in the procedure necessary for this Agreement to enter into force.
This Agreement shall be repealed and replaced by the date on which it enters into force, the Trade Treaty concluded in 1936 between the Czechoslovak Republic and the Australian Community and the arrangements supplementing and amending this Treaty.
This agreement will be valid for five years. It shall remain in force after that period, but may be terminated by any Contracting Party to this Agreement by written notice; the agreement expires 90 days after receipt of such notice.
In order to prove the signature of the signature, which was duly empowered by the respective governments, they signed this agreement.
