Decree of the Ministry of Education of the Slovak Socialist Republic on the organisation of the school year in primary and secondary schools

on the organisation of the school year at primary and secondary schools
The Ministry of Education of the Slovak Socialist Republic provides, pursuant to § 33 paragraph 2 of Act No. 63 / 1978 Coll., on measures in the system of primary and secondary schools:
§ 1
Basic provisions
This decree regulates the organisation of the school year in basic nine-year schools, primary schools, youth schools requiring special care and secondary schools (hereinafter referred to as schools).
§ 2
School period
(1) The period of school education is divided for the first and second half. Except for the following classes in the first half of the school year, they begin on 1 September and end on 31 January of the following calendar year; in the second half of the course begins on 1 February and ends on 30 June. The period of school education is interrupted by the period of school holidays (§ 3).
(2) In the final year of the school providing full secondary education, the second half of the school period shall end on the day of the final meeting of the Graduate Board in the ordinary examination period; in the final year of secondary vocational education, vocational training and apprenticeships on 15 June.
(3) In vocational schools, secondary vocational schools and secondary vocational schools in which pupils have operational practice partly on major holidays, the teaching ends on the day of taking up operational practice.
(4) In the third year of secondary education and in the first year of two-year study for graduates of secondary education, the course ends on Friday before starting compulsory four-week operating experience. This practice begins on the first Monday after 30 May.
(5) If the start of the first semester is Friday, the lesson will begin on the next Monday. If the end of the teaching period is on Monday in the second half of the period referred to in paragraphs 1 and 2, the teaching shall end on the previous Friday.
(6) On the last day of each semester, the certificate shall be transmitted with the same date. Special Regulations apply to graduate and final apprenticeship certificates (1)
§ 3
School holidays period
(1) Winter holidays last from 23 December to 2 January inclusive. If December 23 is on Tuesday, winter holidays shall begin before Monday; If January 3rd is Friday, it ends on that day.
(2) Spring break lasts a week and begins on the penultimate Monday of March. In agreement with the Regional National Committee, the County National Committee may postpone the term of spring break in primary schools, in basic nine-year-olds and in youth schools requiring special care up to two weeks before or after the first sentence, in a uniform manner for schools in the district which it conducts. Similarly, the Regional National Committee may postpone the term of spring break in schools which it is leading professionally. In places threatened by industrial exhalation, the term of spring break may be postponed up to four weeks before or after the first sentence.
(3) The main holidays last from the end of the second semester until the beginning of the new school year. In schools where the curriculum provides for compulsory holiday experience for pupils, the main holiday is reduced by the period of that practice.
(4) The employment of apprentices during school vacations is regulated by special regulations. (2)
§ 4
Adjustment of teaching time
(1) In the schools referred to in § 1, they are taught at a five-day education.3)
(2) On a proposal from the school director and after the association of parents and friends of the school, the national committee conducting the school may provide that the school is taught at the relevant school in an 11-day teaching cycle (4) or in a six-day teaching week.
§ 5
Final provision
The regulations of the Ministry of Education of the Slovak Socialist Republic of 14 June 1970 No 9522 / 1970- I on the organisation of the school year at schools I and II cycle (published in the publication Všisti MŠ and MK SSR, p. 71, registered in the amount of 47 / 1970 Coll.) are hereby repealed.
§ 6
Efficacy
This decree shall take effect on the day of its publication.

Decree No. 111 / 1965 Coll., on final apprenticeship examinations as amended by Regulations No. 11 / 1968 Coll., No. 11 / 1970 Coll. and No. 29 / 1976 Coll.
2) Decree No. 11 / 1971 Coll., on teaching fields and on the organisation of apprenticeship education as amended by Regulations No. 88 / 1971 Coll., No. 82 / 1972 Coll. and No. 90 / 1978 Coll.
3) In the case of transfers of working time under Section 94 of the Labour Code, the teaching day may also be Saturday.
4) For the 11-day teaching cycle, it shall be taught alternately in the five-day and six-day teaching week.
