on the Treaty on friendship and cooperation between the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and the People's Democratic Republic of Yemen
On 14 September 1981, the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation between the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and the Yemen People's Democratic Republic was signed in Aden.
The Treaty was approved by the Federal Assembly of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and ratified by the President of the Republic. The instruments of ratification were exchanged in Prague on 20 July 1982.
Pursuant to Article 14 of the Treaty, the Treaty entered into force on 20 July 1982.
The Czech version of the Treaty is hereby published at the same time.

TREATY
on friendship and cooperation between the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and the Yemen People's Democratic Republic

appreciating the importance of expanding and deepening friendship and mutual cooperation in line with the vital interests of the people of both countries and in order to consolidate international peace and security,
the decision to continue to contribute to strengthening the unity and cooperation of all forces fighting for peace and national independence, democracy and social progress,
expressing their support for the fight against imperialism, hegemonism, colonialism, neo-colonialism, Zionism and racism in all its forms and speeches,
reaffirming its commitment to the objectives and principles of the United Nations Charter, in particular the principles of respect for sovereignty, territorial integrity and non-interference in internal affairs,
attach great importance to the cooperation of both countries towards achieving lasting and fair peace in the Middle East,
underlining the importance of consolidating and developing fruitful cooperation between the two countries,
have decided to conclude this contract and have agreed on the following:
The High Contracting Parties solemnly declare their determination to consolidate a firm friendship between the two countries, to continuously develop relations in the political field, as well as universal cooperation on the basis of equality, respect for national sovereignty, territorial integrity and non-interference in internal affairs.
The High Contracting Parties will further develop cooperation with each other to create conditions to consolidate and further deepen social and economic facilities in both countries and respect the sovereignty of each of them over all its natural resources.
The High Contracting Parties shall endeavour to further develop mutually beneficial economic and scientific and technological cooperation. They will develop this cooperation in the various areas of the national economy, in the expansion of trade between them and in strict respect for the principle of equality and mutual benefit.
The High Contracting Parties will actively promote the mutual development of contacts and exchange of experience in science and culture, education, health, press, radio, television, cinematography, sport and tourism as well as in other areas.
The High Contracting Parties will also promote the expansion of contacts between public authorities and social organisations and direct contacts between cultural and scientific institutions in order to identify the life, work, experience and opportunities of the people of both countries.
The Czechoslovak Socialist Republic appreciates the policies of non-participation carried out by the Yemeni People's Democratic Republic, which is an important contribution to strengthening international cooperation and peaceful coexistence.
The Yemeni People's Democratic Republic values the peaceful foreign policies pursued by the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic aimed at strengthening friendship and cooperation with all countries and nations.
The High Contracting Parties shall make every effort in their foreign policy to maintain international peace and security and to consolidate and develop the process of releasing tensions, to ban strategic weapons, to end arms races and to reach a general and comprehensive disarmament agreement. They will strive to apply the principles of peaceful coexistence consistently in relations between states with different social structures as well as to contribute to the fair fight of nations for freedom, independence, sovereignty and social progress. They will also support the efforts of young independent states, freer from colonial dependence, to democratize the current system of international economic relations, and to fight for full respect for the sovereignty of these states over their natural resources.
The High Contracting Parties will continue to actively combat the aggressive politics of world imperialism and hegemonism, for the definitive elimination of colonialism, Zionism and racism in all its forms and speeches.
The High Contracting Parties will make every possible contribution to a comprehensive settlement of the crisis in the Middle East and to a fair and lasting peace in this area. Both sides will consult and coordinate with each other to find a comprehensive solution and implement it.
The High Contracting Parties shall consult each other on all relevant international issues directly affecting the interests of both Parties. In the event of situations threatening or violating peace in the world, both parties shall enter into contact without delay in order to coordinate their views in order to eliminate threats or violations of peace.
The High Contracting Parties solemnly declare that they will not enter into military or other volumes and will not participate in any grouping of States or in any military action or measure directed against the other High Contracting Party.
The High Contracting Parties declare that this Treaty does not affect their international rights and obligations and is not directed against any third country. At the same time, both parties undertake not to negotiate any international documents in future contrary to this Treaty.
Any questions which may arise in connection with the interpretation or implementation of any provisions of this Treaty shall be addressed in a spirit of friendship, mutual respect and understanding of direct negotiations between the two High Contracting Parties.
This Treaty is subject to ratification and will enter into force on the date of the exchange of instruments of ratification, which will take place as soon as possible in Prague.
This Agreement shall be negotiated for a period of 20 years and shall be automatically extended by a further five years, unless terminated by one of the Contracting Parties within 12 months before the expiry of the period of validity.
Done at Aden, 14 September 1981, in two original copies, each in the Czech and Arabic languages, the two texts being equally authentic.
