The Ministry of Foreign Affairs states that on 11 November 1996 the Agreement between the Government of the Czech Republic and the Government of the Republic of Hungary on mutual visa waiver was signed in Prague.
The Agreement entered into force on 20 May 1997 pursuant to Article 12 (1) thereof. The Agreement between the Government of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and the Government of the People's Republic of Hungary on travel between the two countries of 11 December 1963, published under No 2 / 1964 Coll.
The Czech version of the Agreement is hereby published at the same time.
AGREEMENT
between the Government of the Czech Republic and the Government of the Republic of Hungary on the reciprocal visa waiver
The Government of the Czech Republic and the Government of the Republic of Hungary (hereinafter referred to as the "Contracting Parties'), led by the wish to facilitate the mutual travel of citizens of both countries and also in this way to help develop relations between the two States, have agreed as follows:
Citizens of a State of one Contracting Party holding valid travel documents listed in the Annex to this Agreement may enter the territory of the State of the other Contracting Party and stay there for a maximum of 90 days without visas if their purpose is not employment or other gainful activities.
Citizens of a State of one Contracting Party who enter the territory of another Contracting Party for employment or other gainful activities or intend to stay there for more than 90 days must obtain the necessary visas with the competent authorities of the receiving State before entering.
1. Citizens of the Czech Republic who lose a valid travel document in the territory of the State of the other Contracting Party may travel from the State of residence to a new valid travel document issued by the relevant diplomatic mission or consular office, which will be provided with a travel permit from the competent authorities of the State of residence.
2. Citizens of the Republic of Hungary who lose a valid travel document in the territory of the State of the other Contracting Party shall travel from the State of stay to a new valid travel document issued by the relevant diplomatic mission or consular post, which shall be accompanied by a visa from the competent authorities of the State of residence.
1. Citizens of the States of the two Contracting Parties holding a valid diplomatic or service passport and who are on the territory of the other Contracting Party as members of a diplomatic mission or consular post may reside in the territory of the other Contracting Party during their secondment without a visa.
2. Members of the family, citizens of the States of the two Contracting Parties living with persons referred to in paragraph 1 in the common household, may stay without a visa in the territory of the other Contracting Party for the duration of their secondment, provided that they themselves hold diplomatic or service passports.
Citizens of one Contracting Party may enter the territory of another Contracting Party only at border crossing points for international contact.
Citizens of a State of one Contracting Party are required to comply with its legislation when staying in the territory of the other Contracting Party.
The Parties shall immediately inform each other, through diplomatic channels, of changes to the legislation governing entry, stay and travel.
1. The two Contracting Parties shall retain the right to refuse entry or stay in the territory of their State to undesirable persons.
2. The Contracting Parties undertake to recruit citizens of their State in their territory without obstacles.
The two Contracting Parties retain the right to refuse entry or residence to citizens of the State of the other Contracting Party who could jeopardise the security of the State or public order or who do not have sufficient means to secure their residence.
1. Each Contracting Party may temporarily, in whole or in part suspend the application of this Agreement for reasons of safety, protection of public policy, health, except in the case referred to in Article 8 (2).
2. Each Contracting Party shall immediately notify by diplomatic means the introduction of the measures and the repeal of them.
1. The Contracting Parties shall exchange, by diplomatic means, the specimens of the travel documents in force listed in the Annex to this Agreement no later than 30 days after the date of its signature. The Annex to this Agreement may be supplemented and amended on the basis of the written consent of the Contracting Parties.
2. In the event that one of the Contracting Parties changes the valid travel documents or introduces a new type of travel document, it shall inform the other Contracting Party by diplomatic means, accompanied by models and information on the applicability of these documents, no later than 30 days before their introduction.
1. This Agreement shall be subject to approval in accordance with the national law of the Contracting Parties and shall enter into force on the 90th day following the date of service of the later note informing of its approval.
2. On the date of entry into force of this Agreement, the Agreement between the Government of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and the Government of the People's Republic of Hungary on travel between the two countries, signed at Prague on 11 December 1963, will cease to apply.
This Agreement shall be concluded for an indefinite period and may be denounced by each Contracting Party. The Agreement shall expire 90 days after the date of receipt of the written notice of termination by diplomatic means to the other Contracting Party.
Dane in Prague on 11 November 1996 in two original copies, each in the Czech and Hungarian languages, the two texts being equally authentic.

Annex
to the Agreement between the Government of the Czech Republic and the Government of the Republic of Hungary on the reciprocal abolition of the visa requirement
The following shall be valid travel documents within the meaning of this Agreement:
1. For citizens of the Czech Republic:
(a) diplomatic passport;
(b) service passport,
(c) passport,
(d) a sailor's book,
(e) passport.
2. For citizens of the Republic of Hungary:
(a) diplomatic passport;
(b) the service passport of the MZV;
(c) passport,
(d) seaman's service passport;
(e) a replacement travel document.
