Ministry of Foreign Affairs
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announces that on 26 September 1986 the Convention on Assistance in the event of a nuclear or radiation accident was adopted in Vienna by the General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and signed on behalf of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic.
The Convention was approved by the Federal Assembly of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and ratified by the President of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic. The instrument of ratification was deposited with the depositary, Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, on 4 August 1988.
The Convention entered into force on 26 February 1987 on the basis of Article 14 (3) and for the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic pursuant to paragraph 4 of that Article on 4 September 1988.
On 24 March 1993, the Czech Republic notified the Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, the depositary of the Convention, that the successor State of the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic was to be considered, with effect from 1 January 1993, as bound by the Convention on Assistance in the event of a nuclear or radiation accident of 26 September 1986.
