THE LAW
of 20 April 1990
on the use of State symbols of the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic
The Federal Assembly of the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic, pursuant to Article VII of Constitutional Act No. 102 / 1990 Coll., on the State Symbols of the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic, decided on this Act:
(1) National emblem of the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic (hereinafter referred to as the "State emblem")
(a) the Federal Assembly, its Bureau, the House of the People, the House of Nations, their Bureau and the Office of the Federal Assembly,
(b) the President of the Republic and the President's Office;
(c) the Government of the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic, its Bureau and the Office of the Bureau of the Government of the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic,
(d) Ministries and other bodies of state administration of the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic,
e) General Prosecutor, State Arbitration, Supreme Court and other courts of the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic,
(f) diplomatic missions and consular offices of the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic,
(g) armed forces and security forces under the responsibility of the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic.
(2) The national cultural and scientific institutions, schools, money institutions and other state bodies and organisations of the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic may use the State emblem, if this is provided for by a special regulation or regulation of the Government of the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic.
(3) The national emblem may also be used in an appropriate and dignified manner by individual citizens and their associations.
The character is used in particular
a) on orders and honours awarded by the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic,
(b) the buildings in which the persons, authorities and organisations referred to in Article 1 (1) and (2) are located;
c) in the meeting and meeting rooms of the state bodies of the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic,
(d) at the borders of the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic,
(e) official ID cards of public officials, officials and staff of state bodies of the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic,
(f) on the lists, seals and official stamps of persons, authorities and organisations referred to in Article 1 (1) and (2),
(g) on the uniforms or parts thereof of the members or staff of the institutions and organisations referred to in Article 1 (1) and (2), where this is provided for in a special regulation;
h) on banknotes, statuses, coins, securities and other prices of the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic.
The national emblem is also considered to be a single-colour surface or spatial finish, while the colour marking may be used for individual colours.
(1) The State flag of the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic (hereinafter referred to as "the State flag") is subject to the provisions of Section 1 accordingly.
(2) The national flag is used on the occasion of public holidays, significant days and other official and festive occasions of the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic.
(3) A call for the use of the State flag on official or solemn occasions of national importance is issued by the Federal Ministry of the Interior. In other cases, the relevant national committee shall issue this call.
The use of national symbols of the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic or parts thereof is prohibited which would be inappropriate, disproportionate or which would show disrespect for these symbols.
(1) Details of the use of the State emblem in the armed forces of the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic are set by the President.
(2) The Government of the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic provides for transitional arrangements for the gradual replacement of the existing national emblem with a new emblem.
(3) The Federal Ministry of the Interior lays down rules for the use of the national symbols of the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic by a general law.
This Act shall take effect on the day of its publication.
