Communication from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the negotiation of the Convention on the Physical Protection of Nuclear Material

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announces that the Convention on the Physical Protection of Nuclear Material was adopted in Vienna on 26 October 1979 by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Conference.
On behalf of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic, the Convention was signed in Vienna on 14 September 1981.
The Convention was approved by the Federal Assembly of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and ratified by the President of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic. The instrument of ratification was deposited with the depositary, Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, on 23 April 1982.
The Convention entered into force on 8 February 1987 on the basis of Article 19 (1) and entered into force on that date for the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic.
On 24 March 1993, the Czech Republic notified the Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency that it was deemed to be bound by the Convention on the Physical Protection of Nuclear Material of 26 October 1979 as the successor State of the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic with effect from 1 January 1993.
