on the Treaty on Friendship and Cooperation between the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and the Libyan Arab People's Socialist Jamahiri
On 9 September 1982, the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation was signed in Prague between the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and the Libyan Arab Socialist People's Jamahiri.
The Treaty was approved by the Federal Assembly of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and ratified by the President of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic. The instruments of ratification were exchanged in Tripoli on 4 June 1983.
The Treaty entered into force on 4 June 1983 pursuant to Article 11 thereof.
The Czech version of the Treaty is hereby published at the same time.

TREATY
on friendship and cooperation between the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and the Libyan Arab People's Socialist Jamahiri
the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and the Libyan Arab People's Socialist Jamahiri,
Desiring to further strengthen friendship and strengthen mutual universal cooperation, in line with the interests of the people of the two friendly countries, as well as the interests of strengthening international peace and security,
being determined, in a spirit of anti-imperialist solidarity, to continue to contribute to strengthening the unity and cooperation of all the progressive and peaceful forces fighting against imperialism for peace and freedom of nations, for independence, democracy and social progress,
expressing their will to actively continue the fight against imperialism, colonialism, neo-colonialism, Zionism and racism in all its forms and manifestations,
confirming their loyalty to the objectives and principles of the United Nations Charter, in particular to the principles of sovereign equality and non-interference in internal affairs,
underlining the importance of further developing and consolidating their relations,
have decided to conclude this contract and have agreed as follows:
The High Contracting Parties solemnly declare their determination to consolidate a firm friendship between the two countries, to continuously develop mutual relations and universal cooperation on the basis of equality, respect for sovereignty, political independence, territorial integrity and non-interference in internal affairs.
The Czechoslovak Socialist Republic appreciates the policy of the Libyan Arab People's Socialist Jamahiri, based on principles and objectives of disengagement, aimed at combating imperialism, liberating nations, strengthening peace and cooperation between states.
Libyan Arab Socialist Jamahiri appreciates the foreign policy of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic as an important contribution to ensuring peace, strengthening international security and easing international tensions.
The High Contracting Parties will continue to seek mutual cooperation to create conditions to consolidate and further deepen the social and economic features of both countries.
To this end, they will develop mutually beneficial cooperation in the various areas of the national economy, scientific and technical cooperation and cooperation in the expansion of trade between them on the basis of respect for the principles of equality and mutual benefit. Specific areas and conditions for such cooperation shall be laid down in implementing documents.
The High Contracting Parties will actively promote the mutual development of contacts and exchange of experiences in science and culture, education, health, press, radio, television, cinematography, sport and tourism as well as in other areas.
They will also support the expansion of contacts between social organisations and the expansion of direct contacts between cultural and scientific institutions in order to understand the life, work, experience and opportunities of the people of both countries.
The High Contracting Parties shall make every effort to maintain international peace and security and to consolidate and develop the process of releasing tension, ending arms and achieving universal and complete disarmament, including nuclear, under effective international control. They will seek the consistent application of the principles of peaceful coexistence in relations between states with a different social establishment.
The High Contracting Parties will continue to support themselves in the fight against aggressive policy of world imperialism, for the definitive elimination of colonialism, Zionism and racism in all its forms and speeches.
In the spirit of unity, anti-imperialist and progressive forces will support the fair fight of nations for freedom, independence, sovereignty, social progress and their fight for full respect for the sovereignty of these states over their natural resources.
The High Contracting Parties shall consult jointly on all relevant international issues affecting the interests of both Parties directly.
The High Contracting Parties declare that they will not enter into military or other volumes and will not participate in any grouping of States or any military action or measure directed against the other High Contracting Party.
The High Contracting Parties declare that this Treaty does not affect their international obligations and is not directed against any third country. At the same time, both parties undertake not to agree in future any international treaty contrary to this Treaty.
Any question which may arise in connection with the interpretation or implementation of any provision of this Treaty shall be dealt with in a spirit of friendship, mutual respect and understanding of direct negotiations between the two High Contracting Parties.
This Treaty shall be subject to ratification under the laws of each Contracting Party and shall enter into force on the date of the exchange of instruments of ratification to be held in Tripoli.
This Agreement shall be negotiated for a period of 10 years and shall be automatically extended by another 10 years, unless one of the High Contracting Parties is terminated within 12 months before the end of the period.
