Government Regulation
of 21 March 1958
on the organisation of the State Geological Service.
The Government of the Czechoslovak Republic orders, with the agreement of the President of the Republic pursuant to § 1 of Constitutional Act No. 47 / 1950 Coll., on adaptations to the organisation of public administration:
(1) A Central Geological Office (hereinafter referred to as "the Office") is hereby established as the central authority of the State for the field of Geological Research and Survey throughout the national territory.
(2) The Office is an objective body of the Government on matters relating to the protection of the state's natural mineral resources and the registration of reserves of mineral deposits.
In particular, the tasks of the Office shall be:
(a) to ensure, according to the essential tasks of the Government, the tasks of geological research and research work to expand the raw material base and to safeguard the various industries with proven reserves of commercial minerals;
(b) coordinate the plan of all geological research and research work in addition to the plan of operational geology tasks;
(c) to issue binding directives and guidelines for the implementation of geological research and research work;
(d) manage and carry out geological research and research through its subordinate organisations;
(e) to check the geological work carried out by other organisations;
(f) collect, assess and register the results of geological work;
(g) co-operate in the organisation of and distribution of graduates of vocational and higher education institutions in the field of geology;
(h) propose to the Government the measures required under Paragraph 1 (2);
(i) carry out other tasks in its field imposed on it by the Government.
(1) The Government shall appoint and dismiss the President of the Office.
(2) The President of the Office shall be accountable to the Government.
The Commission shall control, assess and approve the inventory calculations of mineral deposits established by the Office to provide its needs.
The tasks of the Office, its organisation and relations with subordinate organisations shall be specified in detail by the Government on a proposal from the President of the Office.
The Central Geological Institute set up by Government Decree No. 58 / 1953 Coll., on the Government Committee on Geology and the Central Geological Institute, is the Research Institute of the Office and is subject to general rules on the establishment and abolition of research institutes, technical development departments and research and experimental centres.
The Government Committee on Geology, established by Decree-Law No 58 / 1953 Coll. is hereby repealed.

(2) The provisions of Act No. 43 / 1955 Coll., on Czechoslovak spas and springs and Act No. 40 / 1956 Coll., on State conservation of nature remain unaffected.
(3) Without prejudice to the competence of the State Mining Administration under Act No. 41 / 1957 Coll., on the Use of Mineral Wealth (Mining Act).
This Regulation shall enter into force on 1 April 1958; All members of the government will do it.
