Ministry of Education of the Slovak Socialist Republic
of 31 July 1969
on the establishment, organisation and study of gymnastics
The Ministry of Education of the Slovak Socialist Republic, in agreement with the participating central authorities, provides in accordance with Article 2 of Act No. 168 / 1968 Coll., on Gymnasies, in conjunction with Act No. 72 / 1969 Coll., on certain measures in the organisation and competence of national committees in the Slovak Socialist Republic:
Gymnasium establishment services
Gymnasium is established by the Ministry of Education of the Slovak Socialist Republic within the approved plan and budget.
Transformation of secondary education schools to gymnasium
From 1969 / 1970 to 1969 / 1970, secondary education schools have been transformed into gymnasium by opening the first years of the three-year secondary education studies in the school year 1970 / 1971 alongside the classes of four-year gymnasium studies. In the school year 1972 / 1973, three years of study in secondary education schools will be completed.
(1) Gymnasium studies provide full secondary general education, including language, social sciences, including the foundations of philosophy, mathematics and science, as well as aesthetic and physical education.
(2) Gymnasium studies have since the first year been divided into the humanities and the natural sciences. On both branches, the Regional National Committees may, with the agreement of the Ministry of Education of the Slovak Socialist Republic, set up classes with a special focus according to the requirements for the preparation of gymnastics graduates both for university studies and for their practical application.
Employment studies
(1) Starting in the school year 1970 / 1971, the Ministry of Education of the Slovak Socialist Republic shall set up study at work in the framework of the approved plan and budget for gymnastics, namely evening, long distance and external studies.
(2) Grammar school studies take 4 years, not divided into study branches.
(3) Candidates are admitted to the Gymnasium study under the same conditions as those of the Gymnasium study at other secondary schools.
(4) Graduates in gymnastics are granted work relief to the same extent as students in other secondary schools.
Transitional provisions
(1) In the gradual conversion of secondary education schools to gymnasium, the director and professorship are common to both types of schools. The administrative and economic agenda of both schools is common. The school building will mark the names of both schools. The honorary names of secondary education schools, given to them under special regulations, also go to gymnasium. However, the pedagogical documentation of both schools shall be kept separately. Both schools use special stamps.
(2) If, during the period of conversion of secondary education to gymnasium, the pupil did not benefit from a year of secondary education, he may repeat the same year in gymnasium in the following year.
(3) The transfer of a pupil from a secondary school in general to a gymnasium, or vice versa, may, in justified cases, be authorised by the school director at the end of the school year if the pupil successfully performs a differential examination. The content and scope of the difference test shall be determined by the school director to whom the pupil intends to transfer.
(4) In the conversion of vocational training in secondary education to vocational training in gymnastics, the previous provisions shall be followed.
Final provision
This Decree shall take effect on 1 September 1969.
