on the Cultural Agreement between the Government of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and the Government of the Syrian Arab Republic
On 28 November 1966 the Cultural Agreement between the Government of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and the Government of the Syrian Arab Republic was signed in Prague.
Pursuant to Article 13 thereof, the Agreement entered into force on 4 October 1967.
The Czech version of the Agreement is hereby published at the same time.

Desiring to deepen friendship between the peoples of both countries, develop cultural contacts and strengthen mutual cooperation between the two countries in the fields of culture, science and art,
have decided to conclude this Agreement and to that end have appointed their agents:

Dr Ibrahim Makhos, Vice-President of the Council of Ministers and Minister for Foreign Affairs,
Those who exchanged power of attorney, whom they found in good and proper form, agreed as follows:
In accordance with the principles of equality and national sovereignty and on the basis of the Charter of the United Nations, both Parties will contribute to the promotion and development of cultural contacts between the two countries, the mutual recognition of the cultural heritage of the two nations and the progress made in the fields of culture, education, science and art.
The Parties shall promote cooperation and exchange of experience and information between cultural, educational, scientific, literary and artistic institutions and the organisations of both countries.
The Parties shall promote the mutual exchange of scientists, technicians, professors and students.
Each Contracting Party shall grant scholarships to members of the other country in the field of study, technical specialisation, scientific research and training.
The Parties shall promote the mutual transmission of artists, artistic groups and cultural and artistic workers.
Each Party shall promote the presentation of musical, theatre and film works, broadcasting of radio and television programmes, the organisation of lectures, exhibitions, film, music and theatre festivals and the publication of translations of the scientific, literary and artistic works of the other country.
The Parties shall include accurate and sufficient information on the other country in their curriculum of history and geography.
The Parties will facilitate the exchange of scientific, artistic and educational publications, films, music records, music material and works of the other country.
The Parties shall promote contacts between athletes of both countries, in particular by organising matches and competitions, and shall exchange visits to athletes, coaches and physical experts.
The Parties shall promote mutual cooperation in the fields of radio, television and film. The competent institutions and organisations of both countries will be able to conclude specific agreements between them to this end.
Both Parties shall facilitate the mutual recognition of academic degrees and scientific degrees, diplomas and certificates issued in the other country under the applicable national rules and, if necessary, shall conclude a specific agreement on this.
The Parties will negotiate a periodic implementation plan for cooperation in the fields of culture, education, science and art for the implementation of this Agreement.
Should any conflict arise between the Contracting Parties in the interpretation of any provision of this Agreement, the Contracting Parties shall resolve it by diplomatic means.
This Agreement shall be subject to approval in accordance with the relevant constitutional provisions of the Contracting Parties and shall enter into force on the date of the exchange of instruments for such approval. This Agreement replaces the Agreement on Cultural Cooperation between the Czechoslovak Republic and the Syrian Republic signed in Damascus on 18 June 1957.
This Agreement shall be concluded for a period of three years and shall be extended for the same period each time unless one of the two Contracting Parties denies it in writing at least six months before the expiry of the current three-year period.
In order to prove the signature of the signature, the agents duly empowered by their governments have signed this agreement and sealed it.
Dane in Prague on 28 November 1966 in two copies, each in the Czech, Arabic and French languages, the French language will be decisive in the event of a conflict of interpretation.
